Vaslui Edge USV Iași in Tight Liga III Derby

Vaslui secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over USV Iași on 3 October 2026 in the Romanian Liga III, claiming local bragging rights in a fiercely contested derby. The match was decided by two moments of quality from the home side, who held off a late surge from their rivals to take all three points.

Liga III is a division where every point is precious, and this win lifts Vaslui into a more comfortable position in the table. USV Iași, meanwhile, will feel they deserved at least a draw after a spirited second-half display, but they were left to rue missed chances in front of goal.

Match Overview

Vaslui began the game with purpose, pressing USV Iași high and forcing errors. Their pressure told in the 19th minute when a well-worked move down the right ended with a low cross that was turned in at the near post. The home side doubled their lead in the 34th minute with a stunning free-kick from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.

USV Iași responded well after the break, dominating possession and creating several opportunities. They pulled a goal back in the 61st minute when a corner was headed home unchallenged. Tactical Story

Vaslui set up to be solid defensively and dangerous on the counter-attack. Their midfield sat deep, denying USV Iași space between the lines, and looked to launch quick breaks through their pacey wingers. The two goals came from exactly that kind of approach: one from a quick transition, the other from a set-piece.

USV Iași controlled large spells of the second half, but they struggled to break down a resilient Vaslui back four. Their crossing was often overhit, and their strikers were well marshalled by Vaslui’s experienced centre-backs. The visitors’ best chances came from set-pieces, which ultimately yielded their only goal.

Standout Players

Vaslui’s free-kick scorer was the standout performer, not only for his goal but for his all-round midfield display. He tackled, passed, and drove his team forward throughout. The goalkeeper also deserves credit for a string of saves, particularly a brilliant stop in the second half to deny USV Iași an equaliser.

For USV Iași, the central midfielder was their most influential player, dictating play and creating chances. The centre-back who scored their goal was also a threat in the opposition box, but his defensive colleagues will be disappointed with the goals they conceded.

Table Impact and Season Context

This victory is a significant boost for Vaslui’s campaign in Liga III, moving them up the standings and strengthening their hopes of a strong finish. For USV Iași, the defeat leaves them needing to bounce back quickly in what is a tightly packed division.

The derby atmosphere added extra spice to the occasion, and the three points will be savoured by Vaslui’s players and fans alike. With the season still unfolding, both teams will know that consistency is key if they are to achieve their objectives.
