ACS CIL Blaj claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over SSU Politehnica Timisoara II in Romanian Liga III on 22 September 2026. In a closely contested match, Blaj’s ability to score at crucial moments made the difference, leaving the home side with a narrow defeat despite a spirited second-half display.

The result extends Blaj’s solid away form, while Politehnica Timisoara II are left to rue a missed opportunity to take something from a game they were never far away from.

Match Overview

Blaj started the brighter of the two teams and took the lead in the 18th minute. A well-worked move down the left ended with a precise finish into the bottom corner, giving the visitors an early advantage. Politehnica Timisoara II struggled to find rhythm in the first half, often losing possession in midfield and allowing Blaj to dictate the tempo.

After the break, the home side improved significantly. They equalised in the 55th minute when a driving run from midfield opened up space, and the ball was eventually swept home from the edge of the box. For a period, Timisoara II looked the more likely team to score next. However, Blaj regained the lead in the 79th minute from a set-piece, heading in from a corner to secure all three points.

Key Moments

• 18th minute: ACS CIL Blaj take the lead with a measured finish after a left-sided move.
• 55th minute: SSU Politehnica Timisoara II equalise with a well-placed shot from midfield.

Tactical Story

Blaj set up with a compact midfield and looked to spring forward quickly when they won the ball. Their first goal came from exactly that approach. Defensively, they were organised and forced Timisoara II into wide areas, where crosses were easier to defend. The home side’s improvement after the break came from pushing their full-backs higher and committing more bodies into central areas.

The decisive factor was set-piece defending. Timisoara II had warned themselves with earlier corners, and Blaj finally made one count. It was a tough way to lose for the home team, but a sign of Blaj’s experience and game management.

Standout Players

Blaj’s central midfielder was excellent, breaking up play and starting attacks, while their centre-back scored the winning goal and defended resolutely. For Politehnica Timisoara II, the attacking midfielder who scored the equaliser was their brightest spark, and the young right-back impressed with his energy going forward.

Season Impact

This 2-1 away win keeps ACS CIL Blaj in a promising position in the Romanian Liga III table. For SSU Politehnica Timisoara II, the challenge is to turn promising second-half performances into full-match results. The Liga III campaign is long, and narrow defeats like this can be reversed with better concentration at set-pieces.
