FC Maramures Baia Mare claimed a convincing 3-1 home win over AFC Unirea Tasnad in Romanian Liga III on October 24, 2026. The hosts responded well after being pegged back in the first half, scoring twice after the break to turn a competitive match into a deserved three-point haul.

Match overview

Baia Mare started brightly and were rewarded for their early pressure with the opening goal. Unirea Tasnad grew into the game and equalised before half-time, briefly shifting the momentum. The second half, however, belonged to the home side, who raised the tempo, pressed higher and found gaps in the visiting defence with increasing regularity.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Paul Costin gave Baia Mare the lead with a composed finish after a quick move down the right.
• 41st minute: Unirea Tasnad equalised through Cristian Tamas, who converted from close range after a corner was not fully cleared.
• 57th minute: Denis Sabau restored the home lead with a low strike from the edge of the area.
• 72nd minute: Baia Mare goalkeeper made an important save to deny Unirea an immediate response.
• 84th minute: Raul Muresan made the points safe, finishing a flowing team move at the back post.

Tactical story

Baia Mare’s attacking plan was built on width and quick combinations around the penalty area. Their full-backs pushed high, stretching Unirea Tasnad’s defensive line and creating space for midfield runners. The home side also dominated the second ball after long clearances, which helped them sustain pressure for long periods.

Unirea Tasnad defended deep for much of the match and looked dangerous on the counter, especially in the first half. Their equaliser came from a set piece, but after the interval they struggled to keep possession well enough to relieve pressure. Once Baia Mare scored the second goal, the visitors had to commit more players forward, and that ultimately opened the door for the third.

Standout performers

Denis Sabau was influential in midfield, setting the tempo and scoring the crucial second goal. Paul Costin’s movement troubled the Unirea back line throughout, while Raul Muresan capped a strong all-round display with the final goal. Cristian Tamas was Unirea Tasnad’s most positive performer, taking his goal well and working hard in a losing cause.

What the result means

The win gives FC Maramures Baia Mare another important boost in the Liga III standings and reinforces their strength at home. Unirea Tasnad will be disappointed to have conceded twice after half-time, but the performance included enough encouraging spells to suggest they can respond in their next outing. The result adds another layer to the competitive picture in the division and keeps Baia Mare’s momentum moving in the right direction.
