FC Maramures Baia Mare 2-2 ACS Viitorul Cluj: Late Equalizer Denies Hosts in Liga III

FC Maramures Baia Mare and ACS Viitorul Cluj played out a 2-2 draw in the Romanian Liga III on Saturday, 26 September 2026. The match delivered four goals, a momentum shift, and a late twist that left both teams with mixed emotions.

Baia Mare started strongly and built a two-goal lead, playing with confidence and moving the ball well. Viitorul Cluj looked short of ideas early on, but they found a route back into the game before half-time and then completed a determined comeback in the second half.

Match Overview

The home side dictated the opening exchanges and took the lead with a well-worked goal. They doubled their advantage soon after, and at that point the game looked under control. However, Viitorul Cluj responded with a goal just before the break, which changed the atmosphere completely. The visitors carried that momentum into the second half and equalized, and both teams had chances to win it in a frantic finale.

Key Moments

• Baia Mare opener: A patient build-up ended with a smart finish inside the area.
• Baia Mare second: The hosts doubled their lead from a set-piece, heading in from close range.
• Viitorul lifeline: A goal before half-time gave the visitors belief and shifted the momentum.
• Viitorul equalizer: A second-half strike levelled the score and set up a tense closing period.

Tactical Story

FC Maramures Baia Mare were the better side for the first 30 minutes, using quick passes and movement to pull Viitorul Cluj out of shape. But after taking a two-goal lead, they dropped deeper and invited pressure. Viitorul Cluj switched to a more direct approach, pressing higher and winning second balls. That tactical change turned the match, and Baia Mare's inability to keep possession allowed the visitors to complete their comeback.

Standout Players

Baia Mare's playmaker was excellent in the first half and created both goals, while their center-forward caused problems all game. For Viitorul Cluj, the midfielder who scored the lifeline before half-time was the catalyst, and the substitute who equalized made an immediate impact. Both goalkeepers were busy in the final 15 minutes as the game opened up.

Table Impact

The 2-2 draw leaves both FC Maramures Baia Mare and ACS Viitorul Cluj with a point in the Romanian Liga III standings. Baia Mare will see it as two points dropped after leading 2-0, while Viitorul Cluj will view it as a character-building away result. In a division where fine margins decide promotion and relegation, this comeback could prove valuable for the visitors' confidence.
