FC Drobeta Turnu Severin edged CS Vulturii Farcasesti 3-2 in a pulsating Romanian Liga III encounter on Wednesday night, with a late goal settling a five-goal thriller at the Stadionul Municipal. The victory lifts Drobeta into a more comfortable position in the league table, while Vulturii Farcasesti are left to rue a spirited comeback that ultimately fell just short.

Match Overview

From the first whistle, the hosts looked intent on taking control. Drobeta Turnu Severin pressed high and forced Vulturii Farcasesti into early errors, and the breakthrough arrived inside the opening quarter of an hour. Midfielder Andrei Popescu latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the box and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. The home side doubled their advantage midway through the first half when Mihai Ionescu rose highest to meet a corner and powered a header past the goalkeeper.

Vulturii Farcasesti, however, refused to fold. They pulled one back just before the half-hour mark through Alexandru Stan, who finished neatly after a quick counter-attack. The goal changed the mood of the game, and the visitors began to enjoy more possession. They equalised early in the second half when Robert Marin converted a penalty after a foul in the box, silencing the home crowd and setting up a tense finale.

Tactical Story

Drobeta Turnu Severin set up in a 4-2-3-1 and looked to exploit the flanks, with their full-backs pushing high to overload Vulturii’s defence. That approach worked well in the first half, but the visitors adjusted after the break, switching to a narrower midfield diamond that disrupted Drobeta’s rhythm. For a 20-minute spell, Vulturii looked the more likely side to score again. In the end, though, Drobeta’s decision to introduce fresh legs on the wing paid off, as the winning goal came from a rapid transition after Vulturii had committed men forward.

Standout Players

Andrei Popescu was the engine in midfield for Drobeta, combining his goal with several incisive passes. Mihai Ionescu’s aerial presence was a constant threat, while Cristian Dumitru’s late composure proved decisive. For Vulturii Farcasesti, Alexandru Stan and Robert Marin were the bright spots, dragging their team back into a game that seemed to be slipping away.

Table Impact

The three points move FC Drobeta Turnu Severin up the Liga III standings and give them momentum ahead of their next fixture. CS Vulturii Farcasesti remain in search of consistency, but the character shown in this comeback will offer some encouragement despite the defeat. In a league where every point matters, this was a classic example of how fine the margins can be.
