CS Universitatea Craiova B 4-1 Jiul Petrosani: Second Half Blitz Seals Comfortable Win

CS Universitatea Craiova B produced a commanding second-half display to beat Jiul Petrosani 4-1 in Romanian Liga III, turning a tight contest into a convincing victory with three goals after the interval. The result strengthens the reserve side's position in the series and leaves the visitors from Petroșani with plenty to work on defensively.

For an hour this was a genuinely competitive game. Jiul Petrosani defended doggedly, carried a threat on the break, and had their moments in an evenly contested first half. Once Craiova B scored their second goal, however, the match opened up dramatically, and the home side's superior fitness and squad depth told in the closing stages.

Match Overview

Craiova B started with confidence, moving the ball quickly and looking to stretch Jiul through the wide areas. Their early domination produced the opening goal, but the visitors responded well, equalising and briefly unsettling a young home defence that had looked comfortable until that point.

The second half was a different story. Craiova B raised their intensity, pressed higher up the pitch, and forced Jiul Petrosani into a series of errors in their own half. Two goals in quick succession broke the game open, and a fourth late on completed a scoreline that flattered the hosts slightly given how competitive the opening hour had been.

Key Moments

• 1-0 Craiova: A patient passing move ended with a low shot into the bottom corner after ten minutes of pressure.
• Jiul equaliser: A direct counter-attack caught Craiova cold, and the finish was clinical from just inside the box.
• 2-1 Craiova: A corner was only partially cleared, and the follow-up was driven back through a crowded penalty area.
• 3-1 Craiova: A defensive mix-up gifted the ball to the home striker, who rounded the goalkeeper and finished into an empty net.
• 4-1 Craiova: A late breakaway was finished with composure by a substitute to round off the scoring.

Tactical Story

Craiova B's approach was built on width and quick circulation. Their wingers stayed high and wide, forcing Jiul Petrosani's full-backs into difficult decisions, and the midfield trio rotated constantly to create passing lanes through the middle. When Jiul dropped deeper, Craiova simply increased the tempo and attacked the box with more numbers, which is exactly how the second and third goals arrived.

Jiul's problem was sustaining their defensive structure across ninety minutes. Their equaliser showed what they are capable of when they broke quickly and committed players forward, but those same forward runs left gaps at the back. Once Craiova B took the lead for the second time, the visitors had to open up, and that played directly into the home side's hands. In the final twenty minutes, the game became a matter of damage limitation.

Standout Performers

The pick of the Craiova B performance was their attacking midfielder, who set the tempo throughout and was involved in the build-up to three of the four goals. The substitute who scored the fourth made an immediate impact with fresh legs against a tiring defence. For Jiul Petrosani, the striker who scored the equaliser was their most dangerous outlet all afternoon, holding the ball up well and linking play intelligently despite limited service.

What It Means for the Table

As a reserve team, Craiova B cannot be promoted, but performances like this carry real value for the club's development pathway. Several players in this squad are pushing for first-team consideration, and a four-goal display in a competitive Liga III fixture is exactly the kind of evidence coaches look for. The victory also protects their standing in the series and builds momentum ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

Jiul Petrosani, meanwhile, will be frustrated by the manner of the collapse. Their first-half performance showed they can compete at this level, and the priority now is learning to manage games when the scoreline turns against them. Conceding four goals on the road is difficult to recover from, but the response in their next home fixture will be a far better measure of this team's character than a single heavy defeat.
