CS Sanatatea Cluj secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Unirea Dej in Romanian Liga III on 23 October 2026, with a single goal settling a closely fought evening fixture.

Match overview: Sanatatea edge tight local contest

Played under the lights, the match had the feel of a local derby from the opening whistle. CS Sanatatea Cluj started with purpose, pressing high and forcing Unirea Dej into a series of early clearances. The home side’s intensity set the tone for a first half in which clear chances were scarce but the contest remained fiercely competitive.

Unirea Dej grew into the game and enjoyed longer spells of possession after the half-hour mark, but they struggled to find a way through a well-drilled Sanatatea back line. The decisive moment arrived in the second half, and CS Sanatatea Cluj defended their advantage with maturity to claim all three points.

Key moments

• An early free-kick for CS Sanatatea Cluj caused confusion in the Unirea Dej penalty area, but the visitors cleared the danger.
• Unirea Dej’s best chance of the first half came from a low drive from the edge of the box, which was held comfortably by the home goalkeeper.
• The breakthrough came after the interval when CS Sanatatea Cluj turned a quick transition into a decisive attacking move, finishing calmly to make it 1-0.
• Unirea Dej responded with a spell of pressure and several crosses into the box, but Sanatatea’s centre-backs stood firm.
• In the closing stages, the home side used their substitutions wisely to slow the tempo and protect the narrow lead.

Tactical story: organisation and game management

CS Sanatatea Cluj’s success was built on compact defensive organisation and disciplined midfield work. They denied Unirea Dej space in central areas and forced the visitors wide, where crosses were easier to defend. When they won possession, Sanatatea looked to attack quickly, and that direct approach produced the only goal of the game.

Unirea Dej controlled more of the ball in the second half but lacked the final penetration. Their midfielders worked hard to push the team forward, yet the final pass too often went astray or was intercepted by a determined home defence. Sanatatea’s ability to manage the closing minutes was a key factor in securing the 1-0 win.

Standout performers

The CS Sanatatea Cluj goalkeeper delivered a composed performance, dealing confidently with crosses and making one important save to preserve the clean sheet. The home defence as a unit deserved credit for limiting Unirea Dej to efforts from distance.

In midfield, Sanatatea’s captain set the tempo with a tireless display, while the match-winner’s movement in the final third constantly troubled the Unirea Dej back line. For the visitors, their central midfielder was the standout, repeatedly trying to spark attacks and keep his side in the contest.

League impact: three points and local momentum

The victory strengthens CS Sanatatea Cluj’s position in the Romanian Liga III standings and gives the club valuable momentum in what is always a demanding third-tier campaign. A clean sheet and a narrow home win are exactly the kind of results that can prove decisive in the race for promotion or in the battle to stay clear of the lower reaches.

For Unirea Dej, the 1-0 defeat is a frustrating setback, but the performance showed enough resilience to suggest they can bounce back quickly. Both teams will now turn their attention to the next round of Liga III fixtures, with Sanatatea Cluj able to enjoy the local bragging rights after a hard-earned three points.
