CS Agigea claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Unirea Branistea in Romanian Liga III on Wednesday evening, with a second-half goal proving enough to separate the two sides. The win strengthens Agigea’s position in the mid-table battle, while Branistea are left frustrated after a battling performance that yielded no reward.

Match Overview

The game began at a cautious pace, with both teams wary of each other’s counter-attacking threat. CS Agigea gradually took control of possession, and their patience was rewarded in the 21st minute when Ionut Cernat curled a beautiful effort into the top corner from just inside the penalty area. Branistea responded well, pressing higher and forcing a series of corners, but they could not find an equaliser before the break.

Early in the second half, Unirea Branistea got the goal their pressure deserved. Florin Radu converted from close range after a goalmouth scramble, levelling the score at 1-1. The momentum seemed to shift, but Agigea regained their composure and struck the decisive blow in the 74th minute. George Munteanu found space at the back post and tapped in a low cross to make it 2-1, sending the home supporters into celebration.

• 58th minute: Florin Radu equalises for Unirea Branistea after a scramble in the box.

Tactical Story

CS Agigea lined up in a 4-3-3 and looked to dominate the midfield through quick, short passing. Their wingers stayed wide to stretch Branistea’s back four, and that width eventually created the winning goal. Unirea Branistea, meanwhile, relied on a direct approach, often looking for the long ball over the top. It worked in spells, especially in the second half, but Agigea’s defensive discipline held firm in the closing stages. The home side’s ability to win the second balls in midfield proved crucial.

Standout Players

Ionut Cernat was the standout performer for CS Agigea, not only for his goal but for his relentless energy in midfield. George Munteanu’s movement off the ball created constant problems, and his winning goal was a just reward. For Unirea Branistea, Florin Radu was a constant threat and took his goal well, while goalkeeper Andrei Vasile made several important saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

Table Impact

The three points lift CS Agigea further away from the relegation zone and into a more comfortable mid-table position. Unirea Branistea remain in a tight cluster of teams fighting for consistency, and they will need to turn performances into points quickly. With the Liga III season still young, both sides know that every match carries significant weight.
