CSA Steaua Bucuresti 0-0 Metaloglobus: Steaua held in Ghencea

CSA Steaua Bucuresti were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against Metaloglobus in Romanian Liga II on 17 October 2026, despite enjoying the better of the possession at Stadionul Steaua. The hosts pushed for a winner throughout the second half, but a disciplined Metaloglobus defensive display and a few important saves kept the scoreline blank in Ghencea.

The match was billed as a clash between Steaua’s attacking ambition and Metaloglobus’s reputation for organisation, and that is exactly how it unfolded. Steaua controlled the ball early, shifting it from side to side and looking for openings through the half-spaces. Metaloglobus responded by dropping into a narrow block, inviting pressure and looking to spring forward on the counter whenever the hosts lost possession in advanced areas.

Match overview

Steaua’s best spells came just before and after half-time. A header from a corner was cleared off the line in the 39th minute, and early in the second half a low shot from the edge of the area flashed just wide. Metaloglobus, meanwhile, carried a threat on the break and forced Steaua’s goalkeeper into a sharp save at his near post. As the game wore on, Steaua increased the tempo and pushed more bodies into the box, but the final pass was repeatedly blocked or intercepted.

Key moments

• 21st minute: Steaua’s first real opening ended with a curling effort from the right channel drifting wide.
• 39th minute: A Steaua corner caused confusion, but a goalbound header was cleared off the line.
• 52nd minute: Metaloglobus broke quickly and tested the Steaua goalkeeper with a low drive.
• 67th minute: Steaua had a goal ruled out for offside after a quick passing move.
• 84th minute: A late free-kick was headed over as the hosts ran out of time.

Tactical story

Steaua’s build-up was patient and often involved the full-backs pushing high, but Metaloglobus defended the wide areas well and forced the hosts into crosses that were comfortable to deal with. The visitors’ compact 4-4-2 shape limited central access and made Steaua play in front of them. When Steaua did find a way through, Metaloglobus’s centre-backs were quick to cover and block. The away side offered little in terms of sustained possession but came close on the counter, which kept Steaua from committing everyone forward.

Standout performers

Metaloglobus’s goalkeeper was the game’s most influential player, making a string of composed saves and dominating his six-yard box. Steaua’s midfielders worked hard to keep the tempo high, while the home defence dealt comfortably with the rare counter-attacks that came their way. The match also underlined the importance of concentration: Steaua’s disallowed goal was a reminder of how fine the margins can be in a tight Liga II contest.

League impact

The draw means both sides add a point to their Liga II tally, but Steaua will view it as two dropped at home. Metaloglobus, by contrast, will be pleased with a clean sheet and a resilient away performance against one of the division’s more recognisable names. With the standings still taking shape, Steaua need to convert territorial control into goals, while Metaloglobus can build on a defensive display that frustrated a promotion hopeful.
