NK Kustošija came from behind to beat Hrvace 2-1 in the Croatian First Football League on Saturday night, claiming an away victory built on patience, improved second-half control and two well-timed finishes. Hrvace had taken the lead midway through the first half, but Kustošija’s response after the break turned the match in their favour.

Kustošija turn the game around after the break

The match began with Hrvace looking aggressive in the pressing phases and willing to attack down the channels. Their reward arrived in the 34th minute when Ante Čović found space in the box and finished confidently. Kustošija, however, did not panic. They kept circulating the ball, drew Hrvace deeper and gradually found more room between the lines.

The equaliser arrived ten minutes into the second half, and from that point the visitors looked the more likely winner. Kustošija’s midfield took control, their wide players stretched the pitch, and Hrvace’s early intensity began to fade. The winning goal in the 78th minute was a fitting reward for the away side’s improved second-half display.

Key moments

• 34th minute: Ante Čović gave Hrvace a 1-0 lead with a composed finish after a quick attacking move.
• 55th minute: Filip Šarić equalised for Kustošija, arriving in the penalty area to convert a low cross.
• 78th minute: Nikola Matić scored the winner, finishing neatly after Kustošija worked the ball into a dangerous central position.
• 90th minute: Hrvace pushed forward in search of a late equaliser, but Kustošija’s defence held firm through stoppage time.

Tactical story

Hrvace’s first-half plan was clear: press high, force mistakes and attack quickly after turnovers. It worked for a period, and the opening goal came from exactly that kind of energetic sequence. But the home side struggled to sustain the approach after the interval, and Kustošija’s midfield began to dictate possession.

Kustošija’s adjustment was subtle but effective. They moved the ball more quickly from side to side, pulled Hrvace’s midfield out of position and created space for late runs into the box. The winning goal was the product of that patient approach, with Matić timing his arrival perfectly to meet a cut-back that Hrvace failed to clear.

Standout performers

Šarić was central to Kustošija’s comeback, not only for his equalising goal but for his willingness to carry the ball through midfield and link attacks. Matić’s decisive contribution off the bench gave the visitors an extra attacking threat in the final quarter. For Hrvace, Čović was their brightest performer, and his first-half goal showed the kind of sharp movement that troubled Kustošija before the break.

What it means

The three points lift Kustošija’s confidence and highlight their ability to respond positively when trailing away from home. Hrvace, meanwhile, are left with a familiar frustration: a strong start that was not converted into a result. In the Croatian First Football League, protecting a one-goal lead requires sustained concentration, and Hrvace will need to manage the middle period of matches better if they are to turn promising openings into victories.
