Académico de Viseu U23 Edge Farense U23 3-2 in Five-Goal Portuguese U23 League Contest

Académico de Viseu U23 secured a hard-fought 3-2 away victory over Farense U23 in the Portuguese U23 League on 27 October 2026, producing a lively five-goal encounter that underlined the attacking intent and development-focused rhythm of the competition. The visitors made the most of their second-half momentum, while Farense were left to reflect on a bright start that ultimately slipped away in a difficult spell after the interval.

Match Overview

Farense U23 began the evening with purpose in Faro, pressing higher and looking to use the wide areas to stretch the Viseu back line. The home side’s early energy was rewarded when they opened the scoring, but Académico de Viseu responded with composure rather than panic. The visitors gradually settled into the contest, found space between the lines and equalised before the break with a well-worked move that pulled the Farense defence out of shape.

After half-time, Viseu raised the tempo and turned the match around with two quick goals. A sharp counter-attack and a set-piece moment gave them a 3-1 advantage, forcing Farense to chase the game. The home side did pull one back late on to set up a tense finish, but Viseu’s game management in the final minutes secured all three points.

Key Moments

• Early Farense breakthrough: The hosts started brightly and took the lead after pressing Viseu into a rushed clearance, finishing the move with a low effort from the edge of the area.
• Viseu equaliser before half-time: A patient passing sequence ended with a close-range finish, restoring parity and shifting the momentum before the interval.
• Second-half surge: Viseu scored twice in a productive spell after the restart, first through a rapid transition and then from a delivery into the box.
• Late Farense response: The home side reduced the deficit with a determined attacking move, but Viseu held firm through the closing stages.

Tactical Story

The match was defined by the contrast between Farense’s early pressing and Viseu’s growing control in midfield. Farense looked dangerous when they won the ball high, but that approach left space behind for Viseu to exploit as the game wore on. Académico de Viseu’s midfielders began to dictate the tempo, switching play and drawing the home side forward before releasing runners into the channels.

Viseu’s second-half adjustments were especially effective. By tightening their shape without the ball and committing more bodies into the box during transitions, they made their possession count. Farense’s late goal showed character, but the hosts struggled to create a clear equalising chance in the final minutes as Viseu dropped deeper and protected the central areas.

Standout Performers

Viseu’s central midfield was central to the result, combining energy with calm distribution and winning several important second balls. Their centre-forward also played a key role as a focal point, holding up play and bringing teammates into the game. For Farense, the wide attackers offered the most consistent threat, particularly in the first half and during the late push, while the goalkeeper made two important saves to keep the scoreline within reach.

Season Impact

The win gives Académico de Viseu U23 a valuable three points and adds momentum to their Portuguese U23 League campaign. For Farense U23, the defeat is a reminder of how quickly matches can turn in a development league where young players are still learning to manage transitions and game states. The five-goal contest offered plenty for both coaching staffs to review, from Farense’s bright opening spell to Viseu’s ruthless second-half response.
