SC Rio Tinto (W) produced one of the more entertaining displays of the Portuguese Women’s Segunda Liga round, beating JuveForce Ponte de Vagos (W) 4-2 in a six-goal thriller on 17 October 2026. The hosts built a commanding lead, weathered a comeback, and then pulled away again late on to secure a deserved three points.

Match overview

Rio Tinto started brightly and were rewarded for their early pressure with the opening goal. Their attacking width caused problems throughout the first half, and a second goal gave them a comfortable cushion. JuveForce Ponte de Vagos responded with character, scoring either side of a difficult spell to level the match and set up a tense finish.

Just when the game looked like it might slip away, Rio Tinto regained control. A well-worked move restored their lead, and a late fourth goal sealed the result. The scoreline reflected the hosts’ superior cutting edge in the final third.

Key moments

The first goal arrived in the opening quarter of an hour, setting the tone for an open contest. Rio Tinto doubled their advantage before half-time, but JuveForce struck early in the second half to spark the comeback. After the equaliser, Rio Tinto’s substitutes injected fresh energy, and the decisive third goal came from a rapid transition. The fourth followed in stoppage time as JuveForce pushed forward.

Tactical story

Rio Tinto’s wide players stretched the visiting defence and created space for late runs into the box. JuveForce Ponte de Vagos were dangerous on the counter and benefited from Rio Tinto’s occasional lapses in concentration. However, the home side’s pressing in the final 20 minutes forced mistakes and allowed them to finish the game on top.

Standout performers

Rio Tinto’s forward line was the difference, with their movement and link-up play too much for the JuveForce back line. The home midfield also deserves credit for keeping the team calm after conceding the equaliser. For JuveForce, the fightback was a positive sign, but defensive errors proved costly.

Season impact

The result gives SC Rio Tinto (W) a confidence-building win and strengthens their position in the Portuguese Women’s Segunda Liga table. JuveForce Ponte de Vagos leave with nothing but will take encouragement from their scoring display, though tightening up at the back will be a priority in the coming weeks.
