Match overview

JuveForce Ponte de Vagos started brightly and took the lead inside the opening quarter-hour, using their wide players to stretch Gil Vicente’s back line. The visitors, however, grew into the game as the first half wore on. Their equaliser arrived before half-time, and from that point Gil Vicente looked the more likely side to score again. The winning goal came in the second half after a sustained spell of pressure, leaving JuveForce to chase the game in the final 20 minutes without finding a response.

Tactical story

Gil Vicente’s comeback was built on better midfield control. After a shaky opening, they began winning the second balls and forcing JuveForce to defend deeper. Their pressing in wide areas limited JuveForce’s overlapping runs, and the visitors’ patience in possession eventually created the chances they needed. JuveForce had moments on the counter, but they struggled to sustain attacks once Gil Vicente adjusted their shape and tightened the space between the lines.

Standout performers

Ana Ferreira was the engine of Gil Vicente’s recovery, scoring the equaliser and repeatedly driving her team forward. Rita Costa delivered the decisive goal and caused problems with her movement in the box. Goalkeeper Inês Sousa also played a key role with important saves at 1-1. For JuveForce, Marta Silva was the standout, taking her goal well and remaining a threat even as the game turned against her side.

What it means

The result strengthens Gil Vicente FC Women’s position in the Portuguese Women's Segunda Liga and underlines their ability to win away from home. For JuveForce Ponte de Vagos, it is a frustrating outcome: they started well and led early, but could not hold on against a team that grew in confidence. Both sides will take lessons from a match that highlighted the fine margins in the division.
