Famalicao Women and Gil Vicente FC Women played out a 2-2 draw in the Portuguese Women’s Segunda Liga on 17 October 2026, with both sides trading blows in an evenly matched contest. A late equaliser ensured the points were shared after a game that featured momentum shifts and no shortage of effort.

Match overview

Gil Vicente started the brighter and took an early lead, catching Famalicao cold. The home side gradually grew into the game and equalised before half-time after a sustained period of pressure. The second half followed a similar pattern, with Gil Vicente restoring their advantage only for Famalicao to respond late on.

Both teams had chances to win it in the closing minutes, but a combination of good goalkeeping and rushed finishing kept the score level. The draw was a fair reflection of a match in which neither side dominated for long periods.

Key moments

Gil Vicente’s opener came inside the first ten minutes, a sharp finish after a quick break. Famalicao levelled midway through the first half, converting a well-delivered cross. The visitors regained the lead just after the hour mark, but Famalicao’s persistence paid off with a late goal that sent the home supporters home with something to cheer.

Tactical story

Famalicao controlled more of the ball but struggled to break down a compact Gil Vicente defence in open play. The visitors were content to sit deeper and counter, and that approach almost delivered all three points. Famalicao’s use of the flanks in the final 20 minutes created the space needed for the equaliser.

Standout performers

Famalicao’s substitute made a clear impact, adding energy and directness in the final third. Gil Vicente’s goalkeeper produced several important saves, especially in the second half, while their midfield worked tirelessly to disrupt Famalicao’s rhythm. The home captain also led by example during the late push.

Season impact

A point apiece keeps both teams moving in the Portuguese Women’s Segunda Liga, though Famalicao may feel they did enough to win. Gil Vicente will be pleased with their resilience away from home and their ability to score at important moments. The draw leaves both sides with positives to build on.
