Brito SC 0-1 GD Vitoria Sernache — a late goal from Tiago Almeida sent GD Vitoria Sernache through in the Portuguese Cup on 18 October 2026. Brito SC controlled much of the contest but were punished for missing a first-half penalty, allowing the visitors to snatch a memorable away win.

Match overview

Brito SC started brightly and dominated possession, pinning Sernache back for long periods. The home side’s best opportunity arrived in the 34th minute when they were awarded a penalty, but Sernache goalkeeper Rui Mendes guessed correctly and made a strong save. Brito continued to probe, with a header flashing wide in the 58th minute, but the breakthrough would not come.

Sernache grew into the game as Brito’s frustration mounted. In the 77th minute, a corner was only half-cleared, and Almeida reacted quickest to stab the ball home from close range. Brito threw bodies forward in the closing stages, but a late free-kick sailed over the bar.

Key moments

Tactical story

Brito SC lined up with a possession-based approach, using their full-backs to stretch the Sernache defence. The visitors sat in a 5-4-1 shape, conceded territory, and focused on defending their box. That plan depended on concentration, and Mendes’ penalty save gave them the belief to keep going.

As Brito pushed more players forward, Sernache found space on the counter. The winning goal came from a set piece, but it was the product of their willingness to compete in the air and react first to second balls.

Standout performers

Mendes was the hero for Sernache with the penalty save and a series of confident catches. Almeida’s match-winning instinct proved decisive, while Brito midfielder André Sousa was the home side’s most creative outlet, though he could not find the final ball.

What the result means

Sernache advance in the Portuguese Cup and can look forward to the next round with confidence. Brito SC will be disappointed to exit after creating the better chances, but their league campaign now becomes the priority. The result is a reminder that cup ties are often decided by small margins.
