Brito SC produced a strong away performance to beat Vila Mea 3-1 in the Portuguese Campeonato Nacional on Sunday night, with André Costa’s brace helping the visitors take control of the contest and secure a convincing three points.

Match overview

Brito SC started brightly and were rewarded for their early pressure when André Costa opened the scoring inside the first quarter of an hour. Vila Mea responded well, equalising before half-time through Pedro Silva’s header, but the visitors regained the initiative after the break and never really let it slip.

The second half belonged largely to Brito, who pressed higher, forced turnovers in midfield and attacked with purpose. Tiago Mendes restored their lead just before the hour, and Costa added the third late on to put the result beyond doubt.

• 12': André Costa gave Brito SC the lead with a composed finish after a quick break down the left.
• 34': Vila Mea equalised when Pedro Silva met a deep cross and headed firmly past the goalkeeper.
• 58': Tiago Mendes put Brito back in front, finishing from the edge of the box after a loose clearance.
• 72': Vila Mea pushed forward in search of another equaliser, but Brito’s goalkeeper made an important save.
• 84': André Costa sealed the win with his second goal of the night, converting a low cross at the back post.

Tactical story

Brito SC’s aggressive pressing was a key factor in the win. They closed down Vila Mea’s midfielders quickly, disrupted passing rhythms and won the ball in areas where they could attack directly. Their front line also stretched the home defence, creating space between the full-backs and centre-backs.

Vila Mea had spells of possession and looked dangerous from wide deliveries, but they were too open when losing the ball. Brito’s counter-attacking threat grew as the game wore on, and the away side’s ability to turn defence into attack quickly made the difference in the final half-hour.

Standout performers

André Costa was the clear standout, combining movement, finishing and link-up play to lead the line for Brito SC. Tiago Mendes also impressed with his energy in midfield and his well-taken goal. For Vila Mea, Pedro Silva’s equaliser was a bright moment, but the home side struggled to contain Brito’s runners in the second half.

What the result means

The victory gives Brito SC a timely boost in the Portuguese Campeonato Nacional table and strengthens their reputation as a side capable of taking points on the road. Vila Mea, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a performance that had promising spells but lacked defensive solidity. The result adds another twist to the early-season standings, with Brito moving upward while Vila Mea look to regroup ahead of their next fixture.
