União da Serra came from behind to win 2-1 away at O Elvas in the Portuguese Campeonato Nacional on 11 October 2026, scoring twice in the second half to turn the match around.

Match Overview

O Elvas started the stronger of the two sides and took a deserved lead in the first half, but União da Serra responded with a much-improved second-half display. The visitors equalised early in the second period and then found a winner with just over 15 minutes remaining, leaving O Elvas to reflect on a game they had controlled for long spells.

Key Moments

O Elvas broke the deadlock in the 31st minute when a neat passing move opened up the União da Serra defence. A low cross from the left was met first-time by the attacking midfielder, who guided the ball into the far corner. The home side could have doubled their lead before half-time, but a close-range effort was blocked on the line.

União da Serra came out with renewed purpose after the break and equalised in the 52nd minute. A long throw-in caused confusion in the O Elvas box, and the ball fell kindly for the striker to poke home from six yards. The winner arrived in the 74th minute following a swift counter-attack. The União da Serra winger drove at the defence, cut inside, and curled a shot into the top corner, sparking wild celebrations from the travelling supporters.

Tactical Story

O Elvas played with a high defensive line and looked to dominate possession, but they were repeatedly exposed by União da Serra’s pace on the break. The visitors switched from a 4-3-3 to a more direct 4-4-2 in the second half, and the change gave them greater attacking thrust. O Elvas struggled to cope with the movement of the União da Serra forwards, who rotated positions and dragged defenders out of shape. The home side’s inability to kill the game off when on top proved costly.

Standout Players

• União da Serra winger: Scored the winning goal and was a constant threat in the second half.
• União da Serra striker: Grabbed the equaliser and held the ball up well to relieve pressure.
• O Elvas midfielder: Scored the opener and dictated play in the first half, but faded after the break.

Season Impact

The comeback win lifts União da Serra up the Campeonato Nacional table and demonstrates their resilience away from home. For O Elvas, it is a painful defeat that highlights the need to be more ruthless in front of goal and more compact defensively when protecting a lead. The result adds another twist to an increasingly competitive division, where away victories are beginning to shape the early-season narrative.
