FC Alpendorada and AD Castro Daire shared the points in a dramatic 2-2 draw in the Portuguese Campeonato Nacional on Sunday night, with a stoppage-time equaliser denying the hosts a hard-earned home victory.

Match overview

Castro Daire started strongly and took the lead midway through the first half through Hélder Moreira, who finished well after a period of sustained pressure. Alpendorada responded before the break, equalising through Bruno Teixeira’s header from a corner.

The second half was more open, with both sides creating chances. Alpendorada went ahead for the first time when Rui Pedro finished neatly inside the box, but Castro Daire refused to give up and found a late leveller through André Lopes in stoppage time.

Key moments

• 22': Hélder Moreira gave AD Castro Daire the lead with a composed finish after a quick move down the right.
• 39': Bruno Teixeira equalised for FC Alpendorada, heading in from a well-delivered corner.
• 54': Castro Daire hit the post as the visitors pushed for a second goal.
• 67': Rui Pedro put Alpendorada ahead, converting a low cross at the near post.
• 90+2': André Lopes rescued a point for Castro Daire with a header from a late set piece.

Tactical story

Castro Daire’s aerial strength was evident throughout, and they looked dangerous from crosses and set pieces. Their equaliser in stoppage time came from exactly that route, with Lopes rising highest to meet a delivery into the box. Alpendorada, meanwhile, played some neat football in wide areas and created problems with their movement in the final third.

The hosts will be disappointed with how they managed the closing stages. After taking the lead, they dropped deeper and invited pressure, allowing Castro Daire to load the box for one final attack. It was a lesson in game management, but also a credit to Castro Daire’s persistence.

Standout performers

André Lopes was the man of the moment for Castro Daire, scoring the late equaliser and causing problems with his physical presence. Hélder Moreira also impressed with his movement and finishing. For Alpendorada, Rui Pedro’s goal was a highlight, while Bruno Teixeira was strong in the air at both ends of the pitch.

What the result means

The draw keeps both teams moving in the Portuguese Campeonato Nacional standings, though it will feel like two points dropped for Alpendorada and one gained for Castro Daire. Alpendorada showed attacking quality but must tighten up defensively in the final minutes of games. Castro Daire, meanwhile, demonstrated the kind of resilience that can be valuable over a long season. Both sides will take lessons from a match that swung one way and then the other before ending level.
