Marialvas came from behind to beat AD Fazendense 2-1 in the Portuguese Campeonato Nacional, producing a patient second-half display that turned a difficult away fixture into three valuable points. AD Fazendense started brightly and took the lead, but Marialvas’s improved control after the interval proved decisive.

Match overview

The hosts made the stronger start, pressing high and forcing Marialvas into early mistakes. Their reward came with the opening goal, a move that began on the right and ended with a confident finish inside the penalty area. Fazendense could have doubled their advantage during a lively spell, but Marialvas survived and gradually grew into the game.

Marialvas equalised shortly before half-time, a goal that shifted the momentum. From that point, the visitors were the more composed side, moving the ball with greater purpose and asking questions of the Fazendense back line.

Key moments

• Fazendense opener: The home side capitalised on a high press and finished well from inside the box.
• Marialvas equaliser: A well-worked move down the left created space for a low strike before the break.
• Second-half winner: Marialvas scored midway through the second period after sustained pressure and a scramble in the penalty area.
• Late resistance: Fazendense pushed bodies forward, but Marialvas defended their box with discipline in the final minutes.

Tactical story

AD Fazendense’s early pressing was effective, but it became harder to sustain as the game wore on. Marialvas adjusted by dropping an extra midfielder into the build-up, which helped them bypass the first line of pressure and find space between the lines. That change allowed the visitors to control possession for longer stretches after the restart.

The winning goal came from exactly the kind of sustained pressure that had been missing in the first half. Marialvas kept the ball alive around the edge of the area, forced a defensive mistake and reacted quickest. Fazendense responded with direct football and set pieces, but the equaliser never arrived.

Standout performers

Marialvas’s central midfielder was influential in both phases, linking play and breaking up Fazendense attacks. The match-winner showed composure in a crowded penalty area, while the visiting full-back on the left delivered a strong two-way performance. For AD Fazendense, the opening scorer was their brightest attacking threat, and the goalkeeper kept the scoreline close with a pair of second-half saves.

Season impact

The comeback win gives Marialvas momentum and reinforces their reputation as a side capable of adapting during matches. AD Fazendense will be disappointed to have taken the lead and lost, especially at home, but the performance offered enough encouragement in the attacking phase. In a tightly packed Campeonato Nacional table, this result could prove important when the promotion and relegation picture becomes clearer.
