Stal Brzeg secured a solid 2-0 home victory over Gornik Polkowice in Poland Liga 3 on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The hosts combined compact defending with clinical finishing, and a crucial penalty save helped them protect their advantage in the second half.

Match overview

Stal Brzeg opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Kamil Nowak found space at the edge of the area and struck a low effort into the bottom corner. The home side continued to look dangerous on the break, while Gornik Polkowice struggled to convert their possession into clear chances.

The second goal arrived in the 71st minute through Bartosz Lewandowski, who finished off a swift counter-attack after being played through on the right side of the box. Gornik had a chance to reduce the deficit from the penalty spot in the 58th minute, but Stal Brzeg goalkeeper Michał Duda guessed correctly and made a strong save.

Key moments

• 27’ — Kamil Nowak gives Stal Brzeg the lead with a low strike.
• 58’ — Michał Duda saves a penalty to preserve the home side’s advantage.
• 71’ — Bartosz Lewandowski doubles the lead on the counter-attack.
• 90’ — Stal Brzeg see out the closing stages with disciplined defending.

Tactical story

Stal Brzeg were happy to concede possession in deeper areas and relied on a well-organised back line to limit Gornik’s space between the lines. Their midfield worked hard to close down passing lanes, and once they won the ball, they looked to release their forwards quickly. Gornik Polkowice built patiently but lacked penetration, and the missed penalty proved a turning point.

Standout performers

Nowak was central to Stal Brzeg’s attacking play, opening the scoring and linking well with the midfield. Lewandowski’s energy and finishing sealed the result, while Duda’s penalty save was arguably the defining moment of the match. For Gornik, the midfield kept working until the end, but the final ball was missing in the attacking third.

Season impact

The three points boost Stal Brzeg’s home record in Poland Liga 3 and strengthen their position in the standings. Gornik Polkowice will rue the missed penalty and a lack of cutting edge, especially after seeing enough of the ball to take something from the game. Stal Brzeg’s ability to defend leads could prove important as the promotion race develops.
