Puszcza Niepolomice edged Lechia Gdansk 2-1 in a fiercely contested Poland Liga 2 fixture on 24 October 2026, claiming all three points in front of a packed home crowd at the Stadion Miejski w Niepołomicach. Second-half substitute Kacper Sobczak struck the winner twelve minutes from time, capping a performance built on aggressive pressing and quick transitions that ultimately proved too much for a Lechia side that had briefly hauled itself level.

Match Overview

The visitors arrived with the reputation of a team that likes to dominate the ball, and for long spells they did exactly that, finishing the night with the lion's share of possession and a string of corners. But Puszcza's game plan was clear from the opening whistle: sit compact in a 4-2-3-1, win the second ball in midfield, and attack the space behind Lechia's advancing full-backs.

The result was a match of contrasting styles — patient circulation from the visitors against sharp, vertical counter-attacks from the hosts — and it made for compelling viewing from the first minute to the last.

Key Moments

• 34' — Goal, Puszcza. Michał Wróbel opened the scoring with a low, first-time finish from the edge of the box after a turnover in midfield released him down the right channel.
• 45+2' — Chance, Lechia. A whipped delivery from the left found a free header six yards out, but the ball sailed narrowly over the crossbar.
• 56' — Goal, Lechia. Adrian Zawadzki converted from the penalty spot after a clumsy challenge inside the area, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
• 78' — Goal, Puszcza. Sobczak, on the pitch for barely ten minutes, arrived late in the box to meet a cut-back and lashed the ball high into the net for the winner.
• 90+4' — Save. Puszcza's goalkeeper produced a strong one-handed stop at his near post to deny Lechia a stoppage-time equaliser.

Tactical Story

Lechia's build-up play was neat and their midfield rotation created useful pockets of space between the lines, but the final pass repeatedly went astray. Puszcza's double pivot screened the central corridor effectively, forcing the visitors wide and inviting crosses into a penalty area well defended by two physically dominant centre-backs.

The decisive adjustment came from the home bench. Puszcza's coaching staff pushed their wide players higher after the hour mark, stretching Lechia's back line and creating the exact overload that produced the winning goal. Lechia, chasing the game in the final ten minutes, left gaps at the back but could not find a second equaliser despite sustained late pressure.

Standout Players

Michał Wróbel was the game's most influential attacking presence, combining his goal with several driving runs that pinned Lechia's right side deep. Kacper Sobczak justified his introduction with the match-winning contribution, while Puszcza's goalkeeper delivered the kind of late save that decides tight fixtures. For Lechia, Adrian Zawadzki was the brightest performer — calm from the spot and constantly probing in central areas — but he lacked support in the final third.

Season Impact

Three points lift Puszcza into a more comfortable position in the Poland Liga 2 standings and extend an encouraging home record that has become the foundation of their campaign. Lechia Gdansk, by contrast, are left to reflect on a night of wasted possession and a defensive lapse that cost them at least a share of the spoils.

The head-to-head record now tilts toward the hosts, and with the reverse fixture still to come later in the season, this result could prove significant when the table is read in May. For Puszcza Niepolomice, it is a template for how to beat technically superior opposition; for Lechia Gdansk, it is a reminder that control without penetration wins very little in this division.
