Stal Rzeszow won a remarkable 7-goal contest 4-3 against Pogon Siedlce in Poland Liga 2 on 18 October 2026, surviving a late fightback to claim all three points in one of the most entertaining matches of the round.

Match overview

The game was open from the first whistle, with both teams committing numbers forward and leaving space in behind. Stal Rzeszow looked the sharper side in the attacking third for much of the evening, but Pogon Siedlce refused to fold and kept pulling themselves back into the contest. The seven-goal scoreline told the story of a match defined by quick transitions, set-piece danger and defensive vulnerability at both ends.

Stal's ability to score in clusters proved decisive. Each time Pogon built momentum, the visitors found a way to restore their advantage, and that pattern continued deep into the second half. Pogon's late goal made the closing minutes tense, but Stal managed the final stages well enough to protect the result.

Key moments

Stal opened the scoring early after pressing Pogon's defence into a mistake, and the away side doubled their threat with a second goal before the interval. Pogon equalized in between with a well-worked move down the left, but Stal's response was immediate and clinical. By half-time, the visitors had a narrow lead and the game had already taken on a frantic rhythm.

The second half brought more of the same. Stal moved 3-1 ahead after a corner was only half-cleared, but Pogon pulled one back with a header from a cross. Stal then restored a two-goal cushion with a counterattacking finish, before Pogon scored late to set up a dramatic finale. A final stoppage-time push from the hosts came close to an equalizer, but Stal cleared the danger and held on.

Tactical story

Both teams struggled to control midfield for long periods, which allowed the game to become a series of attacking transitions. Stal Rzeszow were more direct and consistently found space behind Pogon's full-backs. Pogon, meanwhile, looked dangerous from wide areas and set pieces but were exposed when their midfield line pushed too high.

Stal's game management in the final 10 minutes was not entirely convincing, but their attacking output gave them enough margin for error. Pogon will look back at several defensive lapses and wonder how different the result might have been with tighter marking in the box.

Standout performers

Stal's forward line deserved credit for turning half-chances into goals, while their midfield runner repeatedly broke beyond Pogon's back line. Pogon's wide players caused problems throughout, and their substitute added energy during the late comeback attempt. Both goalkeepers were busy and made important saves despite conceding seven goals between them.

League impact

Stal Rzeszow's victory gives the club a valuable three points in the Poland Liga 2 table and reinforces its reputation as a dangerous attacking side. Pogon Siedlce, despite the defeat, showed character and attacking quality that should serve them well over the course of the season. The result will be remembered for its entertainment value, but for both coaches the defensive details will demand immediate attention.
