Granica Kętrzyn Edge Sokół Ostróda in Tight Liga 3 Contest

Granica Kętrzyn secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sokół Ostróda in Poland Liga 3 on October 4, 2026, picking up three valuable points in a match that mixed early control with a tense late defensive stand. Played in front of a lively local crowd, the contest had the feel of a proper regional derby, with both sides aware that every point matters in the third tier.

Granica started with greater urgency and were rewarded for their positive approach. Sokół Ostróda remained dangerous on the break, but the home side’s sharper pressing and quicker ball movement in the final third ultimately made the difference.

Match Overview

Granica Kętrzyn lined up in a 4-2-3-1 shape, looking to squeeze Sokół Ostróda high up the pitch and force turnovers in midfield. The plan worked well during the opening hour. Sokół, by contrast, tried to stay compact and spring forward through the channels, but they struggled to keep possession long enough to build sustained pressure.

The home team’s breakthrough arrived in the 23rd minute when Kamil Wójcik latched onto a loose ball just inside the penalty area and finished low into the corner. Granica doubled their lead in the 67th minute through Bartosz Lewandowski, whose well-timed run met a curling cross from the right and gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Key Moments

• 23rd minute: Kamil Wójcik opens the scoring for Granica Kętrzyn with a composed finish.
• 41st minute: Sokół Ostróda force a sharp save from the Granica goalkeeper after a header from a corner.
• 67th minute: Bartosz Lewandowski heads home to make it 2-0 and put Granica in command.
• 82nd minute: Michał Zawadzki pulls one back for Sokół Ostróda, setting up a nervous finale.
• 90+3 minutes: Granica clear a late free kick to seal the win.

Tactical Story

Granica’s midfield duo controlled the centre of the park for long stretches, winning second balls and allowing the wide players to push high. That territorial advantage meant Sokół often had to defend deep, and when they did win possession, their forwards were isolated.

Sokół Ostróda improved after making attacking substitutions in the second half. Their goal came from a more direct approach, but Granica’s defence held firm in the closing stages. The home side’s ability to slow the tempo and manage the final minutes was a sign of growing maturity in the squad.

Standout Players

Kamil Wójcik was central to Granica’s best moments, not only for his goal but also for his link-up play between the lines. Bartosz Lewandowski’s movement and aerial threat gave Sokół problems all evening. At the back, Granica’s goalkeeper produced a crucial save at 2-0, a stop that prevented the visitors from building momentum earlier.

For Sokół Ostróda, Michał Zawadzki deserved credit for his persistence and the well-taken consolation goal. Their captain in midfield also worked tirelessly, but the team lacked the final pass until the closing period.

Season Impact

The win lifts Granica Kętrzyn into a more comfortable position in the Liga 3 table and strengthens their home record. For Sokół Ostróda, it is a frustrating result: they showed character late on but were punished for a slow start and a costly spell just after half-time. Both teams will now turn their attention to the next round, where Granica will look to build momentum and Sokół will search for a response.
