SL Benfica Women delivered a ruthless demonstration of their title credentials on Sunday, thrashing Braga Women 6-0 at the Estádio Municipal de Braga. The visitors were in imperious form, scoring three goals in each half to humiliate their hosts in the Portugal Campeonato Nacional Feminino.

Match Overview

The match drew a crowd of 2,500, with a strong away following. Referee Sandra Braz oversaw a one-sided contest. Braga, usually tough to beat at home, had no answer to Benfica's relentless attacking play. The game was effectively over by half-time, with Benfica leading 3-0.

Key Moments

• 5' – Marta Ferreira opens the floodgates: A clinical finish from inside the box after a neat one-two.
• 22' – Ana Seiça doubles the lead: A powerful header from a corner.
• 38' – Ferreira gets her second: A solo run and a low shot into the bottom corner.
• 55' – Cloé Lacasse makes it four: A composed finish after being played through on goal.
• 70' – Andreia Faria adds the fifth: A long-range strike that flew into the top corner.
• 88' – Telma Encarnação completes the rout: A tap-in after a goalmouth scramble.

Tactical Story

Benfica set up in a 4-2-3-1 that became a 4-1-4-1 in possession, with their full-backs providing width and the attacking midfielders drifting inside. Braga tried to press high but were repeatedly bypassed by Benfica's quick passing triangles. The home side's defense was stretched, and their midfield could not track the runs of Benfica's forwards. Benfica's dominance was total: they had 68% possession and 15 shots on target.

Standout Players

Marta Ferreira was unplayable, scoring twice and assisting another. Cloé Lacasse was a constant threat with her pace and direct running. For Braga, only goalkeeper Inês Pereira emerged with any credit, making a string of saves to prevent an even heavier defeat.

What the Result Means

Benfica extend their lead at the top of the Campeonato Nacional Feminino table, sending a warning to their rivals. Braga drop to fourth, and their hopes of challenging for the title now look remote. Benfica next face a mid-table side, while Braga must regroup before a tough away trip. This was a performance that underlined Benfica's domestic superiority and their ambition to reclaim the championship.

The result also boosts Benfica's goal difference significantly, which could prove crucial in a tight title race.
