Club Fernando de la Mora 2-1 Resistencia SC — Club Fernando de la Mora edged Resistencia SC 2-1 in the Paraguayan Division Intermedia on Saturday evening, a late goal settling a contest that had ebbed and flowed from the first minute.

Match overview

At the Estadio Emiliano Ghezzi, Fernando de la Mora produced a performance full of attacking intent, but they were made to work for it. Resistencia, well drilled and dangerous on the counter, equalised early in the second half and looked capable of taking control. Instead, the home side found a late winner to send their supporters home happy.

Key moments

• 23rd minute: Fernando de la Mora opened the scoring when Rodrigo Burgos turned smartly inside the box and finished low into the corner.
• 55th minute: Resistencia levelled through Gustavo Vera, who reacted quickest to a rebound after a fine initial save.
• 88th minute: The winner arrived when Cristian Gaitán met a cross from the right with a firm header.
• Stoppage time: Resistencia threw bodies forward, but two late corners came to nothing.

Tactical story

The home side's approach was clear from the start: dominate territory, overload the flanks and get crosses into the box. That worked well in the first half, but Resistencia adjusted after the break, pressing higher and forcing turnovers in midfield. Their equaliser came during their best spell of the match.

Fernando de la Mora responded by pushing their wingers narrower and committing an extra midfielder forward, a gamble that paid off when Gaitán found space at the back post. It was a deserved win built on persistence as much as quality.

Standout players

Gaitán's late header was the decisive contribution of the night, and his movement throughout caused problems. Burgos was sharp in the opening period, while the goalkeeper made a key save at 1-1 to keep the hosts level. For Resistencia, Vera was the standout, full of running and rewarded with his goal.

Season impact

Three points in the Division Intermedia are always valuable, and this win keeps Club Fernando de la Mora in the conversation at the top end of the table. Resistencia will feel they deserved a draw, but their away form remains a concern. Both sides now turn their attention to the next round, knowing the margins in Paraguay's second tier are as tight as ever.
