The Paraguayan Cup delivered a tightly contested knockout clash as Sportivo San Lorenzo edged 14 de Mayo Capiibary 2-1 in a match that kept supporters on edge until the final whistle. Played on 24 September 2026, the result sends Sportivo San Lorenzo through at the expense of a determined Capiibary side that refused to go quietly.

Match Overview

Cup football in Paraguay is famous for its unpredictability, and this tie was a perfect example. Sportivo San Lorenzo, with the deeper squad and greater top-flight experience, started as favourites but were pushed hard by a 14 de Mayo Capiibary outfit that combined physicality with quick counter-attacks.

The 2-1 scoreline reflects a game of fine margins. San Lorenzo's ability to convert their chances proved the difference, while Capiibary's spirited response kept the outcome uncertain right up until the closing minutes.

Key Moments

• Early pressure: Sportivo San Lorenzo established control in midfield and created the first clear openings.
• Opening goal: San Lorenzo broke the deadlock with a well-taken finish, rewarding their early territorial dominance.
• Capiibary response: The visitors hit back, pulling a goal back and injecting real tension into the contest.
• Winner: San Lorenzo restored their advantage and then defended resolutely to close out the tie.

Tactical Story

San Lorenzo's game plan revolved around controlling possession and stretching the Capiibary defence with wide play, while their opponents looked to spring forward quickly after winning the ball. That contrast produced an open, end-to-end cup tie with chances at both ends.

What separated the teams was composure in the decisive moments. San Lorenzo were sharper in front of goal and more organised when defending their lead in the final stages, qualities that matter enormously in single-leg cup formats.

What's Next

The victory keeps Sportivo San Lorenzo's Paraguayan Cup campaign alive and sets up another knockout challenge in the next round. For 14 de Mayo Capiibary, the performance offered encouragement even in defeat, showing they can compete against more established opposition in cup competition.
