Southern United Women 0-4 Waterside Karori Women — Waterside Karori Women produced one of the most complete away performances of the round, dismantling Southern United Women 4-0 in the New Zealand Women's Premier Division on Sunday. A four-goal margin on the road underlines just how wide the gap between the two sides was on the day.

Karori were sharper from the first whistle, moving the ball quickly and pressing Southern United into errors in their own half. By the time the game reached its closing stages, the contest had long since been settled.

How the Game Unfolded

Waterside Karori set the tone early. Their front line pressed aggressively, cutting off Southern United's short build-up from the back and forcing long balls that were comfortably dealt with. The opening goal arrived once that pressure told, and from there the visitors never looked like surrendering control.

The second goal followed before the break, a reward for Karori's willingness to commit numbers forward. Southern United's best moments came in brief spells either side of half-time, but each time they threatened to build momentum, Karori's midfield snuffed out the move and turned defence into attack.

The second half was one-way traffic. Karori added a third shortly after the restart, effectively ending the contest as a competitive fixture, and completed the scoring with a fourth goal that capped a ruthless attacking display. Southern United, to their credit, kept working, but they were chasing shadows for long stretches.

Tactical Story

The match was decided by pressing and spacing. Karori defended high, compressed the pitch and denied Southern United any room to turn in midfield. That approach carried risk, but the visitors' back line held a disciplined offside line and dealt with the few balls played in behind.

In possession, Karori's width stretched Southern United's defence repeatedly. By dragging the full-backs wide and then attacking the space left behind, they created overloads that Southern United never solved. The four-goal scoreline reflects not just finishing quality, but a structural advantage Karori held from the opening minutes.

Standout Performers

• Karori's forward line: relentless in the press and clinical in front of goal.
• Karori's midfield: controlled the tempo and won the second balls that mattered.
• Karori's goalkeeper and defence: a clean sheet on the road, with very few genuine saves required.

Season Impact

A 4-0 away victory is the kind of result that boosts both points and goal difference in the Women's Premier Division table, and Karori will take real confidence from the manner of the win. Clean sheets on the road are currency in any title or top-four race, and this performance delivered one without drama.

For Southern United Women, the afternoon raises questions about defensive organisation and build-up play under pressure. Conceding four at home is a heavy blow, and the response in the coming fixtures will say a great deal about the squad's resilience.
