Brann edged Molde 3-2 in a thrilling Norwegian Eliteserien encounter at the Brann Stadion on Sunday evening, with Bård Finne’s late goal settling a back-and-forth contest that had everything a top-flight match should offer. The home side twice came from behind before snatching all three points in the closing stages, strengthening their push for European qualification and keeping the title race alive.

Match overview

Brann started with the kind of high tempo their supporters have come to expect, pressing Molde high and forcing early turnovers. Molde, however, were compact and dangerous on the break, and they took the lead against the run of play. The game then swung repeatedly, with Brann’s width and crossing causing problems and Molde’s midfield finding space in transition. A crowd of more than 16,000 saw five goals, several standout saves and a finish that will be remembered for its composure under pressure.

Key moments

• 12’ – Molde take the lead: Magnus Wolff Eikrem curled a free-kick around the Brann wall and into the bottom corner after a foul on the edge of the area.
• 34’ – Brann equalise: Niklas Castro delivered a precise cross from the left and Bård Finne headed powerfully past the Molde goalkeeper.
• 58’ – Molde restore their advantage: Kristian Eriksen finished low after a quick counter-attack down the right, catching Brann’s back line out of shape.
• 76’ – Brann level again: Castro drove infield from the left and unleashed a low shot that found the far corner.
• 88’ – Brann win it: Finne turned his marker inside the penalty area and slotted calmly beyond the goalkeeper to send the home crowd into raptures.

Tactical story

Brann’s approach was built on width and quick switches of play. Their full-backs pushed high, allowing the wingers to attack the half-spaces and deliver early crosses. That strategy produced the equaliser and kept Molde’s defence under sustained pressure. Molde, by contrast, sat deeper and looked to spring forward through Eikrem and Eriksen. For long spells their counter-attacking plan worked, but Brann’s persistence and superior bench impact told in the final 15 minutes.

Standout players

Finne was the match-winner with two well-taken goals, while Castro was involved in two of Brann’s three strikes and constantly troubled Molde’s right side. Eikrem was Molde’s most creative outlet, and Eriksen’s movement caused problems throughout. Brann goalkeeper Mathias Dyngeland also made a crucial save at 2-1 to keep his side within touching distance before the comeback was completed.

Season and table impact

The result gives Brann a significant confidence boost in the Eliteserien standings, keeping them firmly in the conversation for the top three and a European place. Molde leave with nothing despite a spirited performance, and they will rue missed chances in the first half. With the season entering its decisive phase, this is the kind of win that can define a campaign — and the kind of defeat that leaves Molde chasing points elsewhere.
