Arna Bjørnar Women and Viking Women played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Norwegian Women’s 1. Divisjon on 17 October 2026, with the promotion rivals sharing the points after a back-and-forth contest at Arna idrettspark. Both sides led at different stages, but neither could find a winning goal in a match that underlined the competitiveness of the second tier.

Match overview

Arna Bjørnar started brightly and took the lead midway through the first half after a sustained spell of pressure. The home side used the width of the pitch well, stretching Viking’s midfield and creating space for crosses into the box. Viking responded before half-time, equalising with a header from a corner that exposed Arna Bjørnar’s vulnerability from set pieces.

The second half was just as open. Arna Bjørnar regained the lead after the hour mark with a neat move through the middle, but Viking refused to settle for defeat. The visitors pushed more players forward in the final 20 minutes and were rewarded with a late equaliser, ensuring the points were shared in a result that felt fair on the balance of play.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Arna Bjørnar opened the scoring with a low finish after a quick interchange on the left.
• 39th minute: Viking Women equalised through a powerful header from a corner.
• 58th minute: The hosts restored their lead with a composed finish inside the penalty area.
• 79th minute: Viking Women levelled again after a goalmouth scramble, forcing the ball over the line.
• 90th minute: Arna Bjørnar had a late chance to win it, but Viking’s goalkeeper made a fine save at the near post.

Tactical story

Arna Bjørnar’s strength was their wide play. The full-backs pushed forward regularly, and the wingers drifted inside to create numerical advantages in the final third. That approach produced the opening goal and several other dangerous moments, but it also left space for Viking to counter. Viking’s midfield pressed well after losing possession, forcing Arna Bjørnar into rushed passes and turnovers.

Viking Women were the more direct side in the second half. They moved the ball forward quickly and looked to win second balls around the penalty area. Their equaliser came from exactly that kind of pressure. Arna Bjørnar will feel they should have managed the game better after retaking the lead, while Viking will take confidence from another strong comeback performance.

Standout performers and table impact

Arna Bjørnar’s goalkeeper made several important saves, especially in the closing stages, while their central midfielder controlled the tempo for long spells. Viking’s captain led by example in midfield, driving her team forward and winning key duels. Both centre-forwards were involved in the goals and caused problems with their movement.

The draw keeps both teams in the promotion mix in the Norwegian Women’s 1. Divisjon standings, though neither will be entirely satisfied with a single point. Arna Bjørnar showed attacking quality but defensive lapses proved costly; Viking demonstrated resilience but will want to start faster in future matches. With the season entering its decisive phase, this was a result that could matter in the final table.
