Molde Women delivered a ruthless cup performance on 22 October 2026, beating Malvik Women 5-0 in the Norwegian Women’s Cup with a display built on high pressing, quick passing and clinical finishing.

Molde made their intent clear from the opening exchanges, pressing Malvik’s back line and forcing turnovers in dangerous areas. The early pressure produced the opening goal, and from that point the away side controlled the rhythm of the tie. Malvik Women worked hard to stay compact and tried to use direct balls forward to relieve pressure, but Molde’s midfield consistently won the second ball and kept the game in the attacking half.

Match overview

The scoreline reflected Molde’s superiority in both boxes. They attacked with width, stretched Malvik’s defensive shape and created repeated chances through combinations down the flanks. At the other end, Molde’s defence remained alert to Malvik’s counter-attacking threat, winning aerial duels and clearing danger before it could develop.

By half-time, Molde had already established a commanding advantage. The second half followed a similar pattern: Malvik attempted to push higher, but that only created more space for Molde’s forwards and midfield runners. Molde added further goals as the game wore on, turning a strong cup performance into a convincing rout.

Key moments

• Early breakthrough: Molde’s high press forced a turnover and the opening goal arrived early, setting the tone for the tie.
• Second goal before the break: Molde doubled their lead after another quick attacking move, leaving Malvik with a difficult half-time deficit.
• Second-half control: Molde added more goals after the restart, capitalising on spaces created by Malvik’s attempts to respond.
• Clean sheet: Molde’s back line stayed focused until the final whistle, completing a dominant defensive performance.

Tactical story

Molde’s success came from aggressive pressing and intelligent movement. Their midfield won possession high up the pitch, while the wide players constantly stretched Malvik’s defence. Once Molde established the lead, they became even more dangerous because Malvik had to commit players forward, leaving gaps behind the midfield line.

Malvik’s defensive effort was tireless, but the team struggled to keep the ball under pressure. Every time they cleared their lines, Molde recycled possession quickly and came again. The Norwegian Women’s Cup tie became a test of endurance, and Molde’s superior control and finishing made the difference.

Standout performers

Molde’s centre-forward was central to the win, leading the press, holding up play and bringing teammates into the attack. The midfield also deserved credit for controlling the tempo and winning loose balls. For Malvik, the goalkeeper made several saves and the defenders continued to work despite the scoreline, but they were overwhelmed by Molde’s relentless attacking waves.

Cup impact

The 5-0 result sends Molde Women into the next round of the Norwegian Women’s Cup with confidence and a clear statement of intent. For Malvik Women, the cup exit is painful, but the match offers a benchmark for the level required in knockout football. Molde’s ability to score five without conceding will make them a dangerous opponent in the next stage of the competition.
