Bodø/Glimt Women edge past Roa in Toppserien thriller

Bodø/Glimt Women claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Roa Women in the Norwegian Toppserien on 26 September 2026, in a match that showcased the growing competitiveness of the women’s top flight. Two first-half goals proved enough for the home side, who withstood a spirited second-half comeback from Roa to secure all three points.

Played at a lively home ground in Bodø, the match was a contrast in styles: Bodø/Glimt’s quick passing and movement against Roa’s direct, physical approach. The win lifts Bodø/Glimt further up the table and continues their impressive form in the league.

Match overview

Bodø/Glimt started brightly, pressing high and forcing Roa into early mistakes. Their reward came inside the first 20 minutes when a neat exchange on the edge of the box released their striker, who finished low into the corner. The lead was doubled shortly before half-time when a corner was only partially cleared and the ball was drilled back in through a crowd of players.

Roa came out for the second half with renewed urgency and pulled a goal back within ten minutes of the restart, a powerful header from a deep cross. The visitors then pushed for an equaliser, but Bodø/Glimt’s defence held firm, with their goalkeeper making a crucial save late on to deny a close-range effort.

Key moments

• Bodø/Glimt opener: A slick one-two on the edge of the area opens up space, and the striker slots a composed finish past the goalkeeper.
• Second goal: A poorly cleared corner falls to a Bodø/Glimt midfielder, who hits a first-time shot through a crowded penalty area and into the net.
• Roa pull one back: A pinpoint cross from the right is met by a towering header that gives the goalkeeper no chance.
• Late save: With minutes remaining, the Bodø/Glimt goalkeeper reacts sharply to tip a deflected shot around the post, preserving the win.

Tactical story

Bodø/Glimt Women lined up in a 4-3-3 and looked to dominate the ball, using their full-backs to stretch Roa’s narrow midfield. Their quick combination play in central areas was a feature throughout, and they consistently found space between Roa’s defence and midfield. The early goals allowed them to control the tempo, though they dropped deeper after the interval.

Roa Women, using a 4-4-2, relied on direct balls to their two strikers and looked to win second balls in midfield. Their goal came from exactly that approach: a long diagonal ball and a strong aerial challenge. However, they struggled to create clear chances against a well-organised Bodø/Glimt back four, and their set-piece defending let them down for the second goal.

Bodø/Glimt’s coach will be pleased with the resilience shown in the final 20 minutes, when his side had to dig deep and defend a narrow lead. The three points keep them in the hunt for a top-half finish and possibly more.

Standout players

Bodø/Glimt’s striker was a constant menace, scoring the opener and linking play intelligently. Their central midfielder controlled the tempo and scored the second goal with a composed finish. The goalkeeper’s late save was worth as much as a goal. For Roa, their right winger delivered several dangerous crosses, and their centre-back was strong in the air despite the defeat.

Toppserien context

The Norwegian Toppserien continues to grow in quality and visibility, and matches like this highlight the competitive depth beyond the traditional title contenders. Bodø/Glimt Women’s victory keeps them in a promising position, while Roa Women will take encouragement from a battling second-half display. Both teams will look to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures.
