Skeid Oslo 1-4 Vålerenga Fotball Elite: Away side power into next round of SAS Braathens Cup

Vålerenga Fotball Elite booked their place in the next round of the Norwegian SAS Braathens Cup with a convincing 4-1 win away to Skeid Oslo on September 18, 2026. The visitors produced a professional and efficient performance, recovering from a bright start by Skeid to take control and ultimately run out comfortable winners.

Skeid Oslo, playing at home, began with energy and looked determined to make the cup tie uncomfortable for their higher-ranked opponents. But Vålerenga’s quality in the final third proved decisive, and once they found their rhythm, there was little doubt about the outcome.

Match overview

The game started at a brisk pace, with Skeid pressing high and trying to force mistakes. Their reward came when they took the lead, sending the home supporters into loud celebration. However, Vålerenga responded calmly. They increased their possession, moved the ball faster, and equalised before half-time with a well-taken goal.

After the break, Vålerenga stepped up another level. They scored early in the second half to take the lead, then added two more goals as Skeid legs tired. The away side managed the game well, controlling possession and limiting their opponents to few clear chances after the opening exchanges.

Key moments

• Skeid’s bright start: The hosts took a shock lead, capitalising on a moment of hesitation in the Vålerenga defence.
• Vålerenga equalise: A composed finish brought the visitors level and changed the momentum of the tie.
• Second-half surge: Vålerenga scored twice in quick succession after the restart to take a firm grip on the match.
• Late fourth goal: A counter-attack in the closing stages sealed the win and added gloss to the scoreline.

Tactical story

Vålerenga’s tactical discipline was key. They allowed Skeid to have the ball in wide areas but stayed compact centrally, forcing crosses that were easier to defend. In possession, they attacked through the half-spaces and used quick one-twos to break the defensive line. Their midfielders controlled the tempo, slowing the game when needed and accelerating when space appeared.

Skeid Oslo can take encouragement from their start and the fact that they created a few half-chances. However, the gap in quality told over 90 minutes. Defensive errors were punished ruthlessly, and the home side struggled to maintain their intensity after conceding the equaliser.

Standout players

Vålerenga’s attacking players were sharp and decisive, with the forwards linking well and converting their opportunities. The midfield provided a strong platform, winning second balls and distributing intelligently. For Skeid, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score down, and the opening goal was a reward for their aggressive approach early on.

Cup progress and season impact

The 4-1 victory sends Vålerenga Fotball Elite into the next round of the SAS Braathens Cup with confidence. Cup runs can be valuable for building momentum, and this performance showed that the squad has depth and composure. For Skeid Oslo, the focus now returns to league matters, where they will look to turn promising spells into points. The cup exit will hurt, but the experience of competing against a strong opponent can still be useful for the rest of the season.
