Odd Grenland advanced in the Norwegian SAS Braathens Cup with a 3-1 home win over Sandefjord on 29 October 2026, combining an early breakthrough with a controlled second-half performance at Skagerak Arena. Sandefjord briefly levelled in the first half, but Odd’s pressing and set-piece strength proved decisive.

Match overview

Odd started on the front foot and were rewarded in the ninth minute when a quick passing move opened up the Sandefjord defence. The visitors responded well, finding an equaliser in the 27th minute after a spell of pressure. That goal gave Sandefjord confidence, but Odd regained the lead four minutes before half-time with a well-directed header from a corner.

The second half was more controlled from the hosts. Odd managed the game intelligently, dropping their midfield slightly to protect the lead while still looking dangerous on the counter. Sandefjord pushed numbers forward in search of an equaliser, but the home side’s defensive discipline held. The third goal arrived in the 78th minute, effectively ending the visitors’ hopes of a comeback.

Tactical story

Odd’s 4-3-3 was built around high pressing and quick transitions, and it caused Sandefjord problems early on. The visitors tried to play through midfield but were often forced into rushed passes. Odd’s midfield trio worked hard to close down space, and their wide forwards constantly looked to attack the full-backs.

Sandefjord’s equaliser came from a period when they managed to pin Odd back, but they struggled to maintain that intensity. Odd’s set-piece threat was a constant concern, and the second goal from a corner highlighted their aerial strength. In the second half, Odd sat slightly deeper and invited pressure, but they defended their box well and used the space behind Sandefjord’s advanced full-backs to score the third.

Standout performers

Odd’s central midfielder controlled the tempo and was involved in both the opening goal and the late third. The centre-back was dominant in the air and dealt with Sandefjord’s crosses, while the goalkeeper made an important save at 2-1. Sandefjord’s striker worked hard and scored the equaliser, but the visitors lacked the defensive solidity to stay in the tie.

What it means

Odd Grenland move on with a performance that showed both attacking quality and game management. Sandefjord’s cup run ends, but their first-half response offered encouragement. For Odd, the 3-1 win is a confidence boost and a reminder that their set-piece work and pressing game can be decisive in knockout football.
