Molde produced a commanding cup performance on 29 October 2026, defeating Strømsgodset 4-1 in the Norwegian SAS Braathens Cup. A dominant first-half display and a ruthless second-half finish sent Molde through with authority, while Strømsgodset were left to rue a series of defensive lapses at key moments.

Molde take control at Aker Stadion

Molde set the tone from the opening whistle, pressing Strømsgodset high and moving the ball quickly through midfield. The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when Kristian Eriksen arrived in the box to convert a low cross from the right. The home side doubled their advantage from the penalty spot in the 28th minute, with Magnus Eikrem sending the goalkeeper the wrong way after a foul inside the area.

Strømsgodset struggled to settle into their rhythm. Molde’s midfield squeezed the space between the lines, forcing the visitors into long passes that were comfortably dealt with by the home defence. Molde’s third goal arrived ten minutes into the second half, when Emil Breivik struck a clean effort from the edge of the box after a short corner routine.

Key moments

• 12’ – Molde 1-0 Strømsgodset: Kristian Eriksen opens the scoring after a sharp move down the right.

Tactical story

Molde’s 4-1 win was built on control rather than chaos. They dominated possession in the first half, used their wide players to stretch Strømsgodset’s back line and consistently found space between the visiting midfield and defence. The penalty gave them breathing room, and the third goal early in the second half effectively ended the contest as a competitive fixture.

Strømsgodset’s best moments came on the counter-attack, but they were too often isolated in forward areas and lacked the numbers to sustain pressure. Their consolation goal was well taken, yet it came after Molde had already taken their foot off the gas. The visitors will look back at the penalty and the set-piece concession as the moments that allowed the game to slip away.

Standout players

Magnus Eikrem dictated the tempo and delivered the penalty with the calmness expected of a senior leader. Kristian Eriksen set the tone with the opening goal and worked tirelessly off the ball, while Emil Breivik added quality in the final third. For Strømsgodset, Marcus Mehnert took his consolation goal well and remained a willing runner even as the game moved beyond reach.

What the result means

Molde move into the next round of the Norwegian SAS Braathens Cup with a statement performance that highlights their attacking depth and cup pedigree. The result also gives them momentum ahead of their league commitments. Strømsgodset, meanwhile, must regroup quickly after a heavy cup defeat, though the scoreline may flatter Molde slightly given the visitors’ brief spells of promise. In a knockout competition, however, the only statistic that matters is the final score, and Molde’s 4-1 victory was thoroughly deserved.
