KFUM Oslo produced a professional away performance on 1 October, winning 2-0 at Honefoss BK in the SAS Braathens Cup. Two goals and a commanding defensive display sent the visitors through, ending the home side's hopes of a cup run in front of their own supporters.

Match Overview

Hønefoss came into the tie with the energy and intensity you would expect from a team eager to test itself against stronger opposition, pressing high in the opening exchanges. But KFUM Oslo absorbed that early pressure calmly, gradually took control of midfield and began to move the ball with real purpose.

The visitors took the lead before half-time, punishing a loose pass with a swift transition that ended in a composed finish. That goal changed the atmosphere of the game entirely. Hønefoss had to come out and chase, and KFUM Oslo exploited the extra space to add a second goal after the break and effectively close out the contest.

Key Moments

• Opening twenty minutes: Hønefoss press aggressively and force a couple of nervous moments in the KFUM defence.
• First half, decisive spell: KFUM intercept a misplaced pass and score on the counter to make it 1-0.
• Second half, early: A sustained spell of possession ends with the second goal and a two-goal cushion.
• Late stages: Hønefoss push numbers forward but KFUM's back four and goalkeeper manage the game comfortably.

Tactical Story

The key to this result was KFUM Oslo's midfield control. Their two central players consistently dropped into pockets of space to receive the ball, allowing the team to beat Hønefoss's first line of pressure and progress up the pitch in a structured way. When the home side did win the ball, they found themselves running into a well-organised defensive shape with little room to operate.

Hønefoss's aggression was admirable but left them exposed. Their full-backs pushed high in search of an equaliser, and on both goals KFUM Oslo attacked precisely those vacated areas. It was a textbook example of a higher-level side reading a cup tie and adapting to the game state.

Standout Players

KFUM Oslo's holding midfielder set the tone, winning second balls and keeping the tempo high without ever looking rushed. The goalscorers earned their praise, but so did the goalkeeper, who made two strong saves in the first half when the game was still level and momentum was up for grabs.

Hønefoss's brightest performer was their attacking midfielder, who drifted between the lines and was responsible for most of his team's better moments. The captain at the back also produced a series of important interventions to prevent a heavier defeat.

What It Means

KFUM Oslo move into the next round with a clean sheet and a convincing scoreline, exactly the kind of controlled cup victory that keeps a squad fresh and confident. Their ability to win without ever being at full throttle is a sign of a team that knows its own game.

Hønefoss leave the SAS Braathens Cup disappointed, but the underlying lesson is a common one for clubs from a lower division: the margins against stronger opposition are decided by efficiency in both boxes. Their league form, rather than this result, will define their season.
