Viking B delivered a ruthless attacking display to sweep aside Varhaug 4-0 in their Norwegian 3. Divisjon clash, extending their impressive home form and underlining the depth of talent within the Viking FK reserve setup.

The match, played on 15 September 2026, was effectively decided inside the opening half-hour as the hosts pressed high and forced Varhaug into a series of defensive errors. Viking B’s young forward line was relentless, and the visitors had no answer to the quick combination play that carved them open time and again.

Match Overview

Viking B set the tone from the first whistle. Their midfield trio suffocated Varhaug’s attempts to play out from the back, and the opening goal arrived in the 12th minute when a turnover was punished with a crisp finish into the bottom corner. The second came shortly after the half-hour mark, a well-worked move down the right flank that ended with a simple tap-in at the back post.

Varhaug tried to steady themselves after the break, but Viking B added a third just before the hour mark with a powerful header from a corner. The fourth arrived in the 79th minute, a counter-attack finished with composure. The clean sheet was the only remaining objective, and the Viking B defence held firm to complete a professional performance.

Key Moments

• 12’ – Viking B take the lead after a high press forces a misplaced pass; the ball is squared for a first-time finish.
• 34’ – A flowing move down the right ends with a close-range finish to double the advantage.
• 58’ – A corner from the left is met with a thumping header, making it 3-0.
• 79’ – Viking B break at speed and slot home the fourth to complete the scoring.

Tactical Story

Viking B’s 4-3-3 was aggressive without the ball, with the front three pressing Varhaug’s centre-backs and cutting off passes into midfield. That forced long balls, which the home defence dealt with comfortably. In possession, Viking B used quick switches of play to isolate their wingers against Varhaug’s full-backs, creating a steady stream of chances.

Varhaug, by contrast, struggled to string passes together. Their midfield was overrun, and their isolated striker had little support. A formation shift to a back five at half-time stemmed the tide briefly, but it also invited more pressure, and Viking B eventually broke through again.

Standout Players

The home side’s No. 9, Markus Vestbø, was a constant menace, scoring twice and linking play intelligently. Young winger Eirik Solberg also impressed with his direct running, while the Viking B centre-back pairing was composed throughout. For Varhaug, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score respectable, but he was badly exposed by his defence.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Viking B’s position in their 3. Divisjon group and keeps them in the conversation for a strong finish. As a reserve team, Viking B cannot be promoted beyond the 2. Divisjon, but they can still influence the title race and provide valuable minutes for the club’s emerging talents. Varhaug, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly as they look to climb away from the lower reaches of the table.
