Vard Haugesund edged a five-goal thriller against Fana in the Norwegian 3. Divisjon on 27 September 2026, winning 3-2 at the Vard Stadion. The home side twice surrendered a lead before snatching a dramatic late winner to claim all three points in an entertaining encounter.

Match Overview

The match started at a frantic pace, with both teams committing numbers forward. Vard Haugesund took an early lead through a well-worked move, but Fana responded positively and equalised before the half-hour mark. The hosts restored their advantage just before half-time, only for Fana to level again early in the second half. As the game appeared to be heading for a draw, Vard found a decisive goal in the closing stages to seal a valuable win.

Key Moments

• 23rd minute: Vard’s top scorer opened the scoring with a sharp turn and finish inside the box.
• 41st minute: Fana equalised with a header from a corner, catching the home defence napping.
• 45+2nd minute: Vard regained the lead when their midfielder curled a shot into the top corner from 20 yards.
• 72nd minute: Fana levelled again, capitalising on a defensive mix-up to slot home from close range.
• 88th minute: Vard’s substitute striker pounced on a loose ball and fired in the winner, sparking wild celebrations.

Tactical Story

Vard Haugesund deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation, looking to dominate possession and use their wide players to stretch Fana’s defence. Fana, set up in a 4-4-2, were happy to sit deeper and hit on the counter-attack. That approach worked for long periods, but their inability to clear their lines under late pressure proved costly. Vard’s willingness to push their full-backs high created overloads, and it was from a wide area that the winning goal originated.

Standout Players

Vard’s match-winner off the bench changed the game with his energy and finishing, while their central midfielder was the engine room, scoring one and assisting another. Fana’s striker was a constant menace, holding the ball up well and scoring the second equaliser. The Fana goalkeeper made several important saves to keep his team in the contest, but he was helpless for the late winner.

Season Impact

With this victory, Vard Haugesund climb to third in the Norwegian 3. Divisjon table, keeping their promotion ambitions firmly on track. Fana remain in mid-table but will rue missed opportunities to take at least a point from a game they twice fought back into. The result highlights Vard’s resilience and their ability to grind out results, a trait that could prove decisive in the race for promotion.
