Ranheim IL 5-0 Egersunds IK: Ruthless Ranheim Make Promotion Statement in Norwegian 1. Divisjon

Ranheim IL delivered a five-star performance at EXTRA Arena on Saturday, 3 October 2026, dismantling Egersunds IK 5-0 in the Norwegian 1. Divisjon. The home side were sharper, faster and more clinical in every department, turning a competitive opening half-hour into a procession and adding a significant boost to their goal difference in the race for promotion.

The result was never in doubt after Ranheim’s early breakthrough. Their high press forced Egersunds into repeated turnovers, and once the first goal arrived, the visitors’ game plan unravelled. By the final whistle, Ranheim had registered a statement victory that will be noticed by every other team in the promotion race.

Match Overview

Ranheim lined up in a 4-3-3 with aggressive full-backs and a midfield trio instructed to win the ball high. Egersunds set up in a 5-4-1, hoping to absorb pressure and counter through the channels. For 10 minutes, the plan worked. Then Ranheim found the accelerator.

The hosts dominated possession, created chances from both flanks and repeatedly cut through the middle when Egersunds’ wing-backs stepped too high. A two-goal lead at half-time reflected Ranheim’s control, and the second half became an exercise in professionalism as they added three more without ever looking threatened.

Key Moments

• 12’ – 1-0: Sander Høydal opened the scoring with a low finish after a turnover in Egersunds’ half. Ranheim’s press created the chance, and Høydal made no mistake from 12 yards.
• 34’ – 2-0: Mats Bjørnstad doubled the lead with a composed first-time strike following a cut-back from the right. Egersunds’ defenders appealed for offside, but the goal stood.
• 58’ – 3-0: Høydal turned provider, sliding a pass through for Kristoffer Østensen, who rounded the goalkeeper and rolled the ball into an empty net.
• 72’ – 4-0: Substitute Emil Røstad added the fourth with a header from a corner, rising above a static Egersunds defence.
• 85’ – 5-0: Jonas Aune completed the rout with a curling effort from the edge of the box, capping a dominant team performance.

Tactical Story

The match was decided by Ranheim’s pressing structure. Their front three blocked passing lanes into Egersunds’ midfield, forcing long balls that were easily collected by the home centre-backs. When Egersunds did manage to play out, Ranheim’s midfield won the second balls and immediately switched play to the wide areas.

Egersunds’ 5-4-1 became a 5-2-3 whenever they lost possession, but the gaps between the lines were too large. Ranheim’s midfielders repeatedly arrived late in the box, and the visitors never adjusted. The clean sheet was as impressive as the five goals: Ranheim’s goalkeeper was rarely tested, and the defence dealt comfortably with every cross.

Standout Players

Sander Høydal was the standout, scoring twice and assisting another. His movement between the lines pulled Egersunds’ centre-backs out of position and created space for Ranheim’s midfield runners. Mats Bjørnstad controlled the tempo in the middle, while Kristoffer Østensen’s direct running caused constant problems. At the back, Ranheim’s captain led a disciplined defensive line that never allowed Egersunds a clear sight of goal.

Season Impact

The three points strengthen Ranheim’s position in the Norwegian 1. Divisjon standings and give them a healthy goal-difference cushion in the promotion race. For Egersunds, the heavy defeat is a setback in their battle to move clear of the relegation zone. With the season entering its decisive phase, Ranheim look like genuine contenders for a top-two finish, while Egersunds must regroup quickly before their next fixture.
