Ranheim IL delivered one of the most impressive away performances of the Norwegian 1. Divisjon season so far, crushing Lyn Oslo 4-1 at Bislett Stadion on Sunday 20 September 2026. The visitors were ruthless in front of goal, scoring twice in each half to secure a statement victory that boosts their promotion challenge. For Lyn Oslo, a historic club with a proud tradition, this was a chastening evening that leaves them hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Match overview

Ranheim started brightly and took the lead in the 12th minute when their striker latched onto a through ball and finished calmly past the advancing goalkeeper. Lyn Oslo tried to respond, but their defence looked nervous every time Ranheim attacked. The second goal arrived in the 38th minute after a poor clearance was punished with a first-time shot from the edge of the box. At 2-0 down at half-time, Lyn Oslo were facing an uphill battle, and their hopes of a comeback were effectively ended in the 61st minute when Ranheim added a third from a well-rehearsed corner routine. Lyn pulled one back in the 77th minute through a header from a free-kick, but Ranheim restored their three-goal cushion in the 89th minute with a composed finish on the break.

Key moments

• 12’ – Ranheim goal: A defence-splitting pass sent the striker clear, and he made no mistake.
• 38’ – Ranheim goal: A loose ball fell to the midfielder, who struck a crisp shot into the bottom corner.
• 61’ – Ranheim goal: A corner was flicked on at the near post and bundled in at the far post.
• 77’ – Lyn Oslo goal: A consolation header gave the home fans something to cheer.
• 89’ – Ranheim goal: A counter-attack ended with a fourth goal, sealing a dominant win.

Tactical story

Ranheim’s high-pressing system completely unsettled Lyn Oslo’s attempts to play out from the back. The visitors won the ball high up the pitch repeatedly, and their front three were relentless in closing down the centre-backs. Lyn Oslo’s midfield struggled to cope with Ranheim’s numerical advantage in central areas, and the home side were forced into a series of long balls that were easily dealt with. When Lyn did manage to get forward, they looked dangerous from set-pieces, but their open-play creativity was sorely lacking. Ranheim’s manager will be particularly pleased with the clinical nature of his team’s finishing, as they scored four goals from just six shots on target.

Standout players

Ranheim’s centre-forward was the clear man of the match, scoring twice and providing an assist for the fourth goal. His movement off the ball constantly dragged Lyn’s defenders out of position, creating space for his teammates. The Ranheim goalkeeper also deserves credit for a crucial save at 1-0, which prevented Lyn from gaining a foothold in the game. For Lyn Oslo, their captain tried to drive the team forward, and the substitute who scored the consolation goal showed good energy, but too many players were below their usual standard.

Season impact

This 4-1 win lifts Ranheim IL up to third in the Norwegian 1. Divisjon table, just two points behind the automatic promotion places. Their goal difference has also received a significant boost, which could prove vital in a tight promotion race. Lyn Oslo, meanwhile, remain in 14th place, only three points above the relegation play-off spot. The head-to-head record between these clubs now heavily favours Ranheim, and Lyn’s supporters will be hoping for a much-improved performance when the two sides meet again. For Ranheim, this result sends a clear message to the rest of the division that they are serious contenders for promotion to the Eliteserien.
