Haugesund won a pulsating Norwegian 1. Divisjon encounter 3-2 against Hodd on 25 October 2026, with a late goal deciding a match that had looked comfortable for the hosts before turning into a thriller. The three points are significant in the promotion race, while Hodd leave with credit for a spirited comeback that ultimately fell just short.

Match overview

Haugesund made the stronger start and built a two-goal lead with a controlled first-half display. They moved the ball well, pressed Hodd into mistakes and looked dangerous from set pieces. At 2-0, the home side appeared to be cruising, but Hodd improved after the break and clawed their way back into the contest with two well-taken goals.

The momentum shifted dramatically as Hodd found belief, and for a spell Haugesund looked rattled. However, the hosts regrouped in the final 10 minutes and found a winning goal that sent their supporters home happy. It was a result built on attacking quality and resilience, even if the performance was more dramatic than comfortable.

Key moments

• 18 minutes: Haugesund take the lead with a composed finish after pressing Hodd into a turnover.
• 34 minutes: A second Haugesund goal doubles the advantage, this time from a well-delivered set piece.
• 55 minutes: Hodd pull one back with a strong run and finish across the goalkeeper.
• 73 minutes: Hodd equalise after a period of pressure, converting from close range.
• 89 minutes: Haugesund score the winner late on, finishing a quick attack after Hodd had pushed forward.

Tactical story

Haugesund’s first-half plan worked well: they controlled possession, used the width of the pitch and looked to deliver early crosses into the box. Their set-piece threat was particularly evident, and Hodd struggled to deal with the physical presence of Haugesund’s attacking players. The hosts also pressed effectively, forcing Hodd into several rushed clearances.

Hodd changed the game after half-time by playing more directly and committing extra bodies forward. That approach stretched Haugesund’s midfield and created space for second balls around the penalty area. The equaliser came from sustained pressure, but it also left Hodd exposed at the back. Haugesund’s winning goal was a classic counter-attack, with the home side breaking quickly and finishing with precision when the opportunity arrived.

Standout performers

Haugesund’s attacking midfielder was influential throughout, linking play and creating chances in the final third. The centre-forward also caused problems with movement and hold-up play, while the goalkeeper made a crucial save late in the second half before the winner. For Hodd, the forward line deserves praise for dragging their team back into the match, and their midfielder’s energy helped turn the tide after the break.

What the result means

The win strengthens Haugesund’s position in the Norwegian 1. Divisjon promotion race and shows they can respond when momentum swings against them. For Hodd, the defeat is painful but the performance offers encouragement, especially after recovering from two goals down away from home. With the season entering its decisive phase, both teams will know that small margins are likely to shape their final league positions.
