FK Gorno Lisice and FK Novaci played out a goalless draw in the North Macedonia Second Football League on Saturday evening, a result that will frustrate both camps for entirely different reasons. The hosts enjoyed the better of the play, while the visitors will point to a disciplined defensive display and a share of the points away from home.

A cagey, closely contested affair

The opening exchanges were defined by caution. Both sides prioritised shape and compactness over adventure, and clear-cut chances were scarce in the first half hour. Gorno Lisice saw more of the ball, patiently working it from side to side, but Novaci's defensive block held firm and forced the hosts into speculative shots from distance.

The best opportunity of the first half fell to Gorno Lisice from a set-piece, a header that drifted just wide of the far post. It was a warning the visitors heeded, tightening up their marking at corners for the remainder of the match.

The second half: pressure without penetration

Gorno Lisice pushed higher after the restart and enjoyed their best spell of the match, pinning Novaci inside their own half for long stretches. Crosses rained into the box and the midfield recycled possession efficiently, but the final ball consistently lacked precision.

Novaci responded with the occasional counter-attack, and their clearest chance came against the run of play when a quick break ended in a low shot that was well saved. In the closing fifteen minutes the tempo rose, both benches emptied, and a late scramble in the Novaci area produced the match's defining moment: a goalbound effort blocked bravely on the line.

Tactical story

This was a game of two well-organised blocks. Novaci's plan was clear from the outset — sit deep, defend the width of the penalty area, and look to spring forward on the break. It is a formula that has served them well on the road, and it worked again here.

Gorno Lisice's weakness was penetration. With the visitors' midfield sitting in front of their back four, the hosts struggled to find pockets of space between the lines. Their most dangerous moments came from wide deliveries, but a lack of bodies arriving in the box meant crosses were often cleared without real alarm.

Standout performers

• Novaci's goalkeeper — commanding on crosses and alert to the occasional shot from range.
• The Novaci centre-back pairing — dominant in the air and disciplined throughout.
• Gorno Lisice's captain — tireless in midfield, always looking to drive his team forward.

Season impact

A point apiece is unlikely to define either team's season, but in a division where the margins are tight it all counts. Gorno Lisice will feel they dropped two points at home, particularly given the volume of possession they enjoyed, while Novaci can be satisfied with a clean sheet and a hard-earned away result.

Both sides will turn their attention to the next round with the same question hanging over them: how to convert territorial control into goals. For Gorno Lisice the answer must be found quickly if they are to keep pace at the top end of the table.
