FC Vardar Skopje claimed a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Bregalnica Stip in the North Macedonia First Football League on 17 October 2026. A single goal settled a tense contest at the Gradski Stadion, where Bregalnica’s bright spells were not enough to break down a disciplined Vardar side.

One goal decides a tight battle

Bregalnica began with energy and looked to press Vardar high in the early stages. The hosts created a few half-chances through set pieces and crosses into the box, but Vardar’s defence held firm and gradually grew into the game. The visitors began to find space in midfield and threatened on the counter, forcing Bregalnica to defend with greater caution.

The decisive moment arrived in the second half when Vardar turned a spell of pressure into the opening goal. A quick attacking move exposed space on the edge of the area, and the finish was calm enough to beat the goalkeeper. Bregalnica pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Vardar managed the closing stages with experience, slowing the tempo and protecting their lead.

Key moments

• Early Bregalnica pressure: The hosts delivered several dangerous crosses but could not find a finishing touch.
• Vardar grow into the game: The visitors began to win midfield duels and threaten on the break.
• Second-half breakthrough: Vardar scored the only goal after a sharp attacking sequence.
• Bregalnica response: The home side pushed numbers forward but found the Vardar defence difficult to break down.
• Late game management: Vardar held possession in the final minutes to secure all three points.

Tactical story

Vardar’s approach was built on defensive discipline and quick transitions. They allowed Bregalnica to have spells of possession but limited the quality of chances, defending their penalty area well and winning important second balls. When the opportunity came, they attacked with purpose and made it count.

Bregalnica will feel they had enough territory and set-piece situations to earn something from the match, but their final ball lacked precision. The hosts’ midfield worked hard to keep the game moving, yet Vardar’s compact shape made it difficult to find clear openings in the final third.

Standout performers

Vardar’s goalkeeper produced a composed display and handled several crosses under pressure, while the back line stayed organised throughout. The match-winner deserved credit for taking the one clear chance that arrived. For Bregalnica, the midfield and wide players showed effort and intent, but the team lacked the cutting edge needed to convert their pressure into goals.

What it means in the table

The win strengthens Vardar’s position in the North Macedonia First Football League and keeps them firmly in the conversation at the top end of the standings. For Bregalnica, the defeat is a reminder of how costly missed chances can be in a tightly contested division. With points at a premium, Vardar’s ability to win without hitting top form could prove valuable over the course of the season.
