NK Neretva edged NK Vodice 3-2 in a five-goal Croatian Third Football League thriller on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, with the home side holding off a late fightback to claim all three points.

The 21:00 kick-off produced an entertaining contest from the first whistle. NK Neretva started brightly and took the lead after a flowing move down the right, finished with a composed strike inside the penalty area. Vodice responded well, equalising midway through the first half when a quick counter-attack ended with a low finish past the goalkeeper.

Match overview

Neretva regained the advantage before half-time through a well-worked set-piece, with the ball nodded back across goal and converted from close range. That goal gave the hosts a 2-1 lead at the interval and a platform to control the second half.

Early in the second period, Neretva extended their lead to 3-1 with a powerful run from midfield and a shot that took a slight deflection on its way in. Vodice refused to fold, though, and pulled a goal back with just over 15 minutes remaining after a sustained spell of pressure. The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Neretva defended their box with determination.

Key moments

The opening goal set the tone for a fast, open game. Vodice’s equaliser showed their counter-attacking quality, but Neretva’s response before half-time proved crucial. The third goal early in the second half looked to have given the hosts breathing space, only for Vodice’s second to set up a tense finish.

In the final minutes, Vodice sent extra bodies forward and won a series of corners. Neretva’s goalkeeper made one important claim under pressure, and a last-ditch block prevented a late equaliser.

Tactical story

NK Neretva’s win was built on their ability to create chances from wide areas and set-pieces, while their midfield worked hard to close down Vodice’s counter-attacks. Vodice were dangerous whenever they broke at speed and will feel they did enough to take a point, but defensive lapses at key moments proved costly.

Standout performers

• NK Neretva’s central midfielder: Drove the team forward and scored the crucial third goal.
• NK Vodice’s winger: A constant threat on the break and involved in both of his side’s goals.
• NK Neretva goalkeeper: Made a late save and commanded his area during Vodice’s final push.

League impact

The 3-2 victory is a significant result for NK Neretva in the Croatian Third Football League, giving them three points in a match that could easily have slipped away. NK Vodice leave with nothing despite a spirited second-half display, but their attacking performance suggests they will remain competitive. For Neretva, the win is a reward for resilience and a reminder of how important game management is in a tight league race.
