Dungannon Swifts Reserves delivered a ruthless home performance in the Northern Ireland Reserve League, dismantling Limavady United Reserves 5-0 in a match that was effectively settled inside the opening half hour. The Swifts were sharper, quicker and more clinical in every department, and the scoreline accurately reflected the balance of play from the first whistle to the last.

• Fixture: Dungannon Swifts Reserves vs Limavady United Reserves
• Final score: Dungannon Swifts Reserves 5-0 Limavady United Reserves

Reserve league football is often about development rather than results, but Dungannon's young side played with a maturity and ruthlessness that will have pleased the first-team staff watching on. Limavady, by contrast, endured a long night.

First Half: Swifts Blow the Game Open

The hosts took the lead inside the opening ten minutes with a move straight off the training ground — a short corner, a driven cross, and a header dispatched at the near post. Limavady had barely touched the ball before the second goal arrived, a slick passing exchange through the middle that ended with a low finish past a helpless goalkeeper.

It got worse for the visitors before the break. A third goal came from a defensive error that was punished immediately, and a fourth arrived shortly before half-time when Dungannon's winger beat his man on the outside and pulled the ball back for a simple tap-in. At 4-0 the contest was over as a competitive fixture, but Dungannon showed no sign of easing off.

Second Half: Professional Job Completed

The second half was more controlled but no less one-sided. Dungannon rotated their squad, giving minutes to several younger players, and added a fifth goal midway through the half with a well-struck effort from distance. Limavady's goalkeeper, who had a busy evening, made three or four excellent saves to keep the margin from growing further.

To their credit, Limavady kept working. They pressed late on and forced two corners in the final ten minutes, but the clean sheet was never seriously threatened. Dungannon's back four dealt comfortably with everything thrown at them and the goalkeeper was rarely called into action.

Key Moments

• 9' — Dungannon score from a short-corner routine.
• 21' — A flowing passing move doubles the lead.
• 34' — A defensive error is punished for 3-0.
• 44' — Pull-back converted for the fourth.
• 68' — A strike from distance makes it 5-0.
• 80' — Limavady's goalkeeper produces a double save.

Tactical Story

Dungannon's dominance stemmed from midfield. Their central pair won the majority of second balls, and as soon as possession was secured, the ball was moved forward quickly into wide areas. Limavady's back line sat too deep and never managed to compress the space between defence and midfield, allowing the Swifts to play through them repeatedly.

In possession, Limavady were tidy enough but lacked penetration. Their front players were isolated and their build-up play was slow, allowing Dungannon's press to reorganise. It is a familiar problem for reserve sides learning to cope with physical, aggressive opponents.

What It Means

A five-goal win and a clean sheet is the perfect result for a reserve side, and it strengthens Dungannon Swifts Reserves' position in the Northern Ireland Reserve League table while giving the coaching staff plenty of positives to point to. For Limavady United Reserves, the priority now is a response in their next outing — a performance with more bite, more organisation and far fewer errors.
