Carrick Rangers and Limavady United played out a 1-1 draw in the Northern Ireland Premier League on Saturday, 24 October 2026, with a late equaliser denying the hosts all three points at Taylors Avenue. Carrick had looked on course for a narrow victory before Limavady struck in the closing stages.

Match overview

Carrick Rangers started brightly and controlled much of the first half, moving the ball with purpose and forcing Limavady United into a defensive posture. The hosts’ midfield found space between the lines and their wide players stretched the visitors’ back line.

Limavady grew into the game as it wore on, though, and their resilience was rewarded with a late goal that changed the mood around the ground. It was a reminder of how competitive the Northern Ireland Premier League can be, with teams fighting for every point until the final whistle.

Key moments

• 31st minute: Carrick Rangers took the lead when a well-worked move down the right ended with a low finish into the bottom corner.
• 44th minute: Limavady threatened from a free-kick, but the Carrick goalkeeper dealt with the danger.
• 67th minute: Carrick nearly doubled their lead, only for a goalbound effort to be cleared off the line.
• 84th minute: Limavady United equalised when a substitute reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box and stabbed it home.
• 90th minute: Carrick pushed for a winner, but Limavady defended their penalty area bravely to hold on for a point.

Tactical story

Carrick’s approach was built on controlled possession and getting numbers into wide areas. They looked the more polished side for long spells, but they were unable to turn their dominance into a second goal. That left the door open for Limavady, who remained compact and grew more confident as the match progressed.

Limavady’s game plan was clear: defend in numbers, stay disciplined and take advantage of set pieces or mistakes. Their equaliser came from exactly that kind of persistence, as they kept the ball alive in the box and punished Carrick for failing to clear. The visitors will feel the point was fully deserved for their fighting spirit.

Standout performers

Carrick’s midfield dictated play for long periods, and their wide players caused problems throughout. The goalkeeper also made important stops to keep the hosts ahead for as long as they did. For Limavady, the substitute who scored the equaliser made the decisive impact, while the centre-backs stood firm under late pressure.

Season impact

The draw leaves both sides with something to build on, though Carrick will feel two points dropped after leading for much of the contest. Limavady, meanwhile, will take confidence from a strong away performance and a late goal that shows their character. In the Northern Ireland Premier League, such points can prove vital in the battle for position and momentum.

Carrick Rangers will look to respond quickly, while Limavady United can take heart from a resilient display that earned them a share of the spoils.
