Tactical story

HW Welders’ pressing game caused Armagh problems throughout. The visitors closed down aggressively in midfield and forced errors, then attacked quickly through the channels. Armagh’s equaliser came during their best spell, but they struggled to sustain that momentum after the interval.

As the home side chased the game, Welders dropped slightly deeper and used their pace on the break. That decision paid off with the third goal, which ended any lingering doubt about the outcome.

Standout players

The HW Welders forward was the standout performer, scoring twice and leading the counter-attack with intelligence. Their midfield anchor also impressed, breaking up play and setting the tempo. For Armagh City, the wide midfielder who created the equaliser was their brightest attacking outlet.

Cup impact

The win sends HW Welders into the next round of the Northern Ireland League Cup with confidence. For Armagh City, the focus now shifts to regrouping quickly and improving their defensive organisation in upcoming fixtures.
