Ballymacash Rangers and Immaculata played out a 1-1 draw in the Northern Ireland Amateur Cup on 17 October 2026, leaving the cup tie to be settled in a replay. In a committed and physical contest, Immaculata took the lead, but Ballymacash Rangers responded after the break and both sides had chances to win it in the closing stages.

Match overview

The game was played with the intensity expected of a cup tie, with little space in midfield and plenty of direct football. Immaculata struck first after building pressure and forcing Ballymacash Rangers into a defensive error. The home side responded well, creating several half-chances before half-time but failing to find an equaliser.

Ballymacash Rangers came out with more purpose after the interval and were rewarded with a goal that changed the momentum of the tie. Both teams pushed for a winner in the final 20 minutes, and the closing stages were end-to-end. Immaculata had a late opportunity from a set piece, while Ballymacash Rangers also threatened on the counter, but neither side could find the decisive goal.

Key moments

• Immaculata’s opener: The visitors took the lead after a spell of pressure, finishing from close range following a defensive scramble.
• Ballymacash’s equaliser: The home side levelled after the break with a determined attacking move, giving the cup tie new energy.
• Late chances: Both teams had opportunities to win the match in the final minutes, but goalkeeping and last-ditch defending kept the score level.

Tactical story

The match was a battle of direct styles. Ballymacash Rangers looked to play forward quickly and use the width of the pitch, while Immaculata relied on compact defending and quick counterattacks. Set pieces were always likely to be important, and both teams sent numbers forward whenever they won a corner or free kick in dangerous areas.

Ballymacash’s improvement after half-time came from winning more second balls and pushing their full-backs higher. That allowed them to sustain pressure and create the equalising goal. Immaculata, however, remained dangerous on the break and defended with commitment in the closing stages. The replay should offer another tight contest, with both sides believing they can progress.

Standout performers

Ballymacash Rangers’ wide midfielder was a constant outlet, driving at defenders and delivering dangerous crosses into the box. The home side’s goalkeeper also made a crucial save late on to keep the tie level. For Immaculata, the central defender was strong in the air and made several important blocks, while the forward line caused problems with its movement and physicality.

Season impact

The draw keeps both clubs in the Northern Ireland Amateur Cup and sets up a replay with a place in the next round at stake. For Ballymacash Rangers, the comeback showed character and resilience, but the team will need to start faster in the replay. Immaculata will be disappointed not to have held on to their lead, though an away draw in a cup competition is still a useful result. Both sides now face a quick turnaround and another tense cup night.
