Real Esteli Dominate Matagalpa FC 4-1 in Nicaragua Liga Primera Clash

Real Esteli produced a clinical away performance on Sunday, 11 October 2026, defeating Matagalpa FC 4-1 in the Nicaragua Liga Primera. The result underlined Real Esteli’s title credentials and left Matagalpa FC with plenty of work to do after a difficult morning at the Estadio Municipal de Matagalpa.

Byron Bonilla starred with a brace, while Real Esteli’s midfield controlled the tempo from the opening whistle. Matagalpa FC briefly levelled through Carlos Chavarría, but the visitors restored their lead before half-time and pulled away in the second half with two more well-worked goals.

Match Overview

Real Esteli began with a high press and forced Matagalpa FC into several early turnovers. The breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute when Bonilla latched onto a through ball, cut inside from the right channel and finished low into the far corner. Matagalpa responded with a more compact shape and found an equaliser in the 34th minute through Chavarría, who converted a rebound after a goalmouth scramble.

The parity lasted only until first-half stoppage time. A short corner routine freed Bonilla at the edge of the box, and his curling effort restored Real Esteli’s advantage at 2-1. That goal changed the mood of the match, and the visitors never surrendered control after the interval.

Key Moments

• 12th minute: Byron Bonilla opens the scoring for Real Esteli with a composed finish.
• 34th minute: Carlos Chavarría equalises for Matagalpa FC after pressure from a set piece.
• 45+2 minutes: Bonilla strikes again, giving Real Esteli a 2-1 half-time lead.
• 58th minute: Junior Arteaga adds a third after a rapid transition down the left.
• 77th minute: Luis Coronel completes the scoring with a close-range header.

Tactical Story

Real Esteli set up in a flexible 4-2-3-1 and used their wide players to stretch Matagalpa’s back line. The midfield double pivot screened the space in front of the defence and repeatedly won second balls, allowing the visitors to sustain attacks. Matagalpa FC tried to defend in a 4-4-2 block, but they struggled to track runners between the lines and were often pulled out of position by quick switches of play.

After taking the lead for the second time, Real Esteli dropped their pressing line slightly and invited Matagalpa forward before hitting on the counter. That approach produced the third and fourth goals, with Matagalpa’s midfield unable to recover its shape in transition. The home side’s frustration showed late on, and the dismissal only made the closing stages more comfortable for Real Esteli.
