Walter Ferretti produced a stunning away performance to defeat Diriangen 4-2 in the Nicaraguan Liga Primera, a result that blows the title race wide open and hands the visitors a major psychological boost. In a match that delivered six goals, Ferretti’s clinical finishing and ruthless counter-attacking proved too much for a Diriangen side that struggled defensively all evening.

Match Overview

The game began at a frantic pace, with both sides trading early chances. Ferretti drew first blood inside the opening ten minutes, capitalising on a loose pass and finishing low into the corner. Diriangen responded well, equalising midway through the first half with a well-placed header from a corner. But Ferretti restored their lead almost immediately, a quick break ending with a composed finish past the goalkeeper.

The second half was even more open. Diriangen pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Ferretti’s defence held firm and their counter-attacks grew increasingly dangerous. A third goal arrived on the hour mark, a curling effort from outside the box. Diriangen pulled one back with a penalty, but Ferretti sealed the win in the dying minutes with a fourth, sparking celebrations among the travelling supporters.

Tactical Story

Diriangen set up to dominate possession, using a 4-3-3 with high full-backs. But their aggressive approach left them exposed to Ferretti’s rapid transitions. The visitors sat in a mid-block, inviting pressure before launching direct balls into the channels for their pacey forwards. This strategy worked perfectly, as Ferretti repeatedly sliced through Diriangen’s high line. The home side’s midfield struggled to track runners, and their defence was repeatedly caught out of position.

Standout Players

Ferretti’s striker was the undisputed star of the show, scoring twice and causing problems throughout with his movement and finishing. The attacking midfielder also impressed, providing two assists and dictating the tempo of the counter-attacks. For Diriangen, the winger who won the penalty was their brightest spark, but the defensive unit will want to forget this performance quickly.

Liga Primera Table Impact

This victory propels Walter Ferretti up the Liga Primera standings, injecting fresh belief into their campaign and putting pressure on the teams above them. Diriangen, meanwhile, miss a chance to close the gap at the top and will need to regroup quickly. With so many goals and such a dramatic scoreline, this match will be remembered as one of the season’s most entertaining encounters and a clear statement of intent from Ferretti.
