Nasarawa United produced a disciplined and resilient performance to defeat Enyimba 1-0 in the Nigeria Premier League, claiming a major scalp in the 2026-27 NPFL campaign.

At the Lafia Township Stadium, Nasarawa United defended with determination and took their chance when it arrived. Enyimba, one of the most successful clubs in Nigerian football, controlled large parts of the match but could not find a way through a well-organised home side.

Match Overview

The only goal of the game arrived in the 52nd minute when Yusuf Adamu struck from the edge of the box after Nasarawa United won the ball back in midfield. It was a moment of quality in a match otherwise defined by compact defending and tactical discipline.

Enyimba responded with sustained pressure, pushing more players forward and forcing a series of corners and free kicks. However, Nasarawa United’s back line held firm, with goalkeeper Ibrahim Danladi producing several important saves. The home side also threatened on the counter, but the priority in the final 20 minutes was protecting their lead.

The final whistle brought huge celebrations in Lafia, as Nasarawa United secured three points against one of the league’s traditional powerhouses.

Key Moments

• 52’ – Nasarawa United score: Yusuf Adamu found space on the edge of the box and finished decisively.
• 65’ – Enyimba denied: Ibrahim Danladi made a strong save to preserve the lead.
• 84’ – Late pressure: Enyimba sent numbers forward, but Nasarawa United defended their box with composure.

Tactical Story

Nasarawa United set up to frustrate Enyimba. They defended in a compact block, limiting space between the lines and forcing their opponents wide. When Enyimba crossed, the home defence was well positioned to clear. Nasarawa’s discipline was evident in how rarely Enyimba found clear sight of goal despite enjoying more possession.

Going forward, Nasarawa United relied on quick breaks and set pieces. The winning goal came from exactly that approach: a turnover in midfield followed by a direct attack. Enyimba, for all their control, lacked the final pass and were repeatedly denied by a goalkeeper in outstanding form.

Standout Players

Yusuf Adamu will rightly take the headlines for his match-winning goal, but his overall work rate and movement were equally important. Ibrahim Danladi was the hero at the other end, making a series of saves that kept Nasarawa United ahead. The centre-back pairing also deserves credit for standing strong under late pressure.

For Enyimba, there were encouraging individual displays in midfield, but the team lacked a cutting edge in the final third. Their captain tried to drive the team forward, yet Nasarawa’s defensive organisation proved too difficult to break down.

Season Impact

The victory is a significant confidence boost for Nasarawa United and a reminder that home form will be crucial in their season. For Enyimba, the defeat is a dent to their title ambitions and highlights the need for greater creativity against deep-lying defences. In the Nigeria Premier League, dropped points against determined opponents can prove costly, and Enyimba will be eager to respond quickly.
